Large Language Model Chatbot Responses to Cancer Survivorship Questions in Hong Kong: Bilingual Evaluation and Prompt Optimization Study.

BACKGROUND: As the population of survivors of cancer grows and new information technologies become widespread in Hong Kong, survivors of cancer increasingly seek ongoing care and support information from large language models (LLMs). While these tools provide immediate conversational responses, they carry substantial risks of generating inaccurate, unsafe, or generic medical advice. Evaluating LLM response performance is particularly critical in Hong Kong's bilingual health care context. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility, safety, understandability, and readability o…

Infant Attention to Eyes Versus Mouth Varies With Mouth Movement Speed, Family History of Autism and Language Development.

PURPOSE: Patterns of visual attention to faces are mixed in infants with a family history of autism relative to controls. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often co-occurs with autism and could represent one source of variance in findings. Heterogeneity in language skills may represent another source of variance. We investigated longitudinal patterns of attention to eyes and mouths in infants with and without an elevated familial likelihood (EL) of autism and/or ADHD, and examined associations with language development. METHODS: The sample included 160 infants (EL-autism = 79, E…

Large language model chatbot-based text-to-SQL application for database analyses in liver diseases and hepatology research.

OBJECTIVE: Large language models (LLMs) may improve analysis of structured clinical data by enabling natural language (NL) queries. We developed an interactive, PHI-compliant "Text2SQL" chatbot as a proof-of-concept for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) research. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using the University of California, San Francisco's secure artificial intelligence platform, we configured the chatbot to translate NL queries into Structured Query Language (SQL), execute them, and return both code and results. Clinicians posed 30 questions, and outputs were compared with SQL written by a data sc…

Decoding the interconnected splicing patterns of hepatitis B virus and host using large language and deep learning models.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes one million deaths annually and remains a major driver of hepatocellular carcinoma. Despite its compact 3.2 kb genome, HBV exhibits extensive alternative splicing. HBV splice variants contribute to immune evasion and reduce the likelihood of achieving a functional cure. Here, we show that HBV splicing efficiency - quantified from 279 RNA-sequencing libraries of HBV-associated liver biopsies and cultured cells - correlates more strongly with disease progression than the overall proportion of spliced HBV RNA, the latter of which has been proposed as an em

A Multiagent Large Language Model Framework for Emergency Treatment Recommendation in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Development and Validation Study.

BACKGROUND: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treatment selection requires rapid, guideline-concordant integration of clinical, imaging, and laboratory data, including therapeutic windows, contraindications, stroke severity, and imaging eligibility. This process is complex, expertise-dependent, and vulnerable to safety-critical errors. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and validate a structured multiagent large language model (LLM) framework for AIS decision support using real-world cases and to assess its accuracy, safety, auditability, and impact on physician decision-making, particularly am…

Radiology oral boards coach: A custom large language model prompt for structured oral board preparation in resident readouts.

With the reinstatement of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) oral board examination, optimal preparation strategies for the reinaugural classes remain undefined. Many radiology faculty, who are the cornerstone of residents' education, lack time availability and prior exposure to the oral exam format, creating a need for efficient, scalable training tools. Case readouts are a daily practice in which radiology residents and faculty collaboratively review unreported imaging studies, serving as the primary means of faculty-to-resident education outside of formal lectures. Large language models …

Sensing the Action: Rethinking Sensor Modalities and Multi-Modal Fusion in Vision-Language-Action Models for Robotic Manipulation.

Recent Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have rapidly emerged as general-purpose robotic policies that integrate language understanding, visual perception, and robot control. However, prior studies and surveys have primarily emphasized backbone architectures, action decoders, training recipes, and benchmark performance, whereas relatively limited systematic attention has been given to sensor modality selection, heterogeneous signal alignment and fusion, and their connection to action generation, all of which are critical to the performance and safety of real-world robotic manipulation. This …

Rational Design of Single-Phase High-Entropy Oxides via Large Language Model Data Mining and Explainable Machine Learning.

The rational design of high-entropy oxides (HEOs) is currently hindered by the scarcity of structured property data in the scientific literature. In this work, we present an end-to-end materials informatics framework that couples large language model (LLM) data mining with interpretable machine learning to predict single-phase stability in HEOs. We deployed agents based on gpt-oss-120b to extract compositions, phases, and synthesis methods from unstructured scientific abstracts. Combined with regular-expression routines, the LLM-based agent achieved an accuracy of 96% in database generation de…

Hemispheric Network Dynamics During Auditory Language Comprehension and Its Clinical Implications Regarding Resting-State Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

PURPOSE: With growing interest in modeling neurobehavior, there is increased interest in understanding patterns of functional connectivity (FC) during language processing. Previous research has suggested that static resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and task-based functional magnetic resonance imaging (tb-fMRI) may be interchangeable in determining FC in language-related regions of interest. Authors have argued for the elimination of using tb-fMRI assessments in preoperative clinical workup of language mapping. However, given that language exhibits not only 3D spati…

Automated extraction of colonoscopy quality indicators from free-text reports using a prompt-based large language model pipeline.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Artificial intelligence has increasingly enabled large-scale analysis of clinical documentation, offering new opportunities to improve quality monitoring in endoscopy. In colonoscopy, key quality indicators - such as cecal intubation, bowel preparation, and polyp detection rate - are routinely recorded in free-text reports, which limits automated extraction and large-scale auditing. We aimed to develop and validate a prompt-based large language model pipeline capable of automatically extracting core colonoscopy quality indicators from routine free-text reports. METHODS: A…
