The impact of COVID-19 on sexual behavior, male sexual function, and reproductive health: an interdisciplinary narrative review from a urological perspective.

The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly modified daily life and interpersonal relationships, with relevant consequences on sexual health, which integrates biological, psychological, and social components. This narrative review summarizes current evidence regarding the impact of the pandemic on sexual behavior, sexual function, and male reproductive health. A comprehensive literature search of recent studies and clinical reports was performed focusing on psychosexual wellbeing, erectile function, fertility, and healthcare access during and after infection or lockdown periods. Current evidence indicate

Mask-Guided Self-Supervised Video Object Segmentation.

This work aims to learn video object segmentation (mask propagation) in a self-supervised manner. We develop a unified framework which simultaneously models cross-frame dense correspondence for locally discriminative feature learning and embeds object-level context for target-mask decoding. As a result, it is able to directly learn to perform mask-guided sequential segmentation from unlabeled videos, in contrast to previous efforts usually relying on an oblique solution - cheaply "copying" labels according to pixel-wise correlations. Concretely, our algorithm alternates between i) clustering v

Resistance training performed under a partial range of motion elicits favorable hormonal responses in untrained young men.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the acute effects of full range of motion (FROM) versus partial range of motion (PROM) resistance training on metabolic and hormonal responses in untrained men. METHODS: Ten untrained men (24.1 ± 1.2 yrs) performed three sets of back squat and bench press exercises at their 10-repetiton maximum under three conditions separated by one week: (1) FROM movement; (2) PROM movement; and (3) passive rest (CON). Blood samples were collected before, immediately post-exercise, and 15 min post-exercise, and blood lactate, serum levels of growth hormone, total testost

Modeling and optimizing trust-mediated influence in temporal heterogeneous networks.

Public health communication increasingly depends on networked interactions in which attitudes and behavioral intentions emerge through repeated peer exchange and institutional contact, yet trust remains weakly represented in many computational diffusion and graph-learning frameworks, particularly when privacy shocks abruptly reshape credibility. We present a proof-of-concept, mechanism-grounded framework that treats trust as a bounded, directed, and diffusible state on a temporal heterogeneous graph and couples that state to learned influence pathways and budget-constrained intervention optimi

Cannula characteristics and mortality risk in Gluteal Lipofilling: does diameter and tip design matter? A narrative review.

Gluteal fat grafting, or Brazilian butt lift, is a rapidly growing aesthetic procedure but remains associated with the highest mortality among cosmetic operations, primarily because of fatal pulmonary fat embolism after injury to the deep gluteal veins. Although safety discussions have focused mainly on injection plane, cannula diameter, tip design, rigidity and port configuration are modifiable technical factors that may influence vascular penetration and intravascular fat delivery. This narrative review synthesised English-language evidence from PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase and the Cochrane Librar

Stable Lord Madreporic Femoral Stem 32 Years After Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Case Report.

The Lord total hip prosthesis was discontinued because of high rates of failure of the threaded acetabular component and marked proximal femoral bone atrophy related to stress shielding. We report an exceptionally long-term follow-up of a Lord femoral stem that remains stable 32 years after implantation. In 1994, a 37-year-old tailor underwent left revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) using the Lord system. Fifteen years later, in 2009, he presented in our orthopedic department with pain and substantial functional impairment. Imaging demonstrated aseptic loosening of the Lord acetabular cup w

Coronal stability at mid-stance is preserved in mechanically aligned medial pivot total knee arthroplasty despite intraoperative lateral laxity.

BACKGROUND: Medial pivot total knee arthroplasty (MP-TKA) prioritizes medial stability while allowing a degree of lateral laxity. Traditional mechanical alignment may enlarge the lateral gap, but whether such laxity compromises dynamic coronal stability during weight-bearing gait remains unclear. METHODS: Consecutive patients who underwent mechanically aligned MP-TKA were prospectively enrolled, and fluoroscopic gait analysis using 3D-2D registration was performed to evaluate coronal alignment and joint stability during the mid-stance phase of gait. Intraoperative soft-tissue balance was quan

Incidence of sinus membrane perforation in transcrestal graftless maxillary sinus augmentation: a meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate Schneiderian membrane perforation incidence and complications in graftless transcrestal sinus floor elevation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Several databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Scopus) were searched for studies reporting perforation rates, early implant failure (≤12 months) and postoperative complications. Two reviewers independently selected studies, extracted data and assessed bias. Random-effects meta-analysis was performed. Evidence certainty was graded using the GRADE system. RESULTS: Among 14 studies comprisi

Flying whales: Insights into the flipper of the humpback whale and its relatives using a novel tissue-illuminating technique.

Cetaceans primarily generate thrust through dorsoventral oscillations of the caudal flukes, while their flippers are generally associated with lift generation and torque production during manoeuvring. However, the humpback whale, which possesses the largest forelimbs among extant and extinct vertebrates, has been observed performing active flipper strokes that contribute to forward propulsion. This behaviour represents a unique combination of axial swimming and underwater flight among cetaceans. In this study we investigate the anatomical correlates of this rarely observed locomotor behaviour

Corrective steps during neonatal mask ventilation - a narrative review of the evidence behind the MR SOPA acronym.

The mnemonic "MR SOPA" (Mask adjustment, Repositioning head/airway, Suctioning, Open mouth, Pressure increase and Alternative airway) facilitates remembering corrective steps when ventilation during neonatal resuscitation is inadequate. Here, we critically evaluate the scientific evidence for each step and appraise the usefulness of the mnemonic as a sequential guidance in airway management of newborn infants: Mask: Size and placement are crucial to minimize mask leak and airway obstruction. Firm top and flexible edges may help form a better seal, while mask shape seems to be less important. T

The Effect of von Willebrand Disease on Platelet Adhesion Dynamics: Correlating a Multiscale Platelet Model to In Vitro Results.

OBJECTIVE: Von Willebrand Disease (VWD), the most common inherited bleeding disorder affecting 0.1% to 1% of the population, causes extensive mucocutaneous bleeding across various clinical contexts. Von Willebrand Factor (vWF) plays a critical role in hemostasis by mediating platelet adhesion under high shear stress conditions. We simulated platelet-vWF interactions to investigate adhesion dynamics in VWD using a multiscale modeling approach combining Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD) and Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics (CGMD). METHODS: Our platelet model provides high-resolution insights

Health messages that engage audiences after the COVID-19 pandemic: content analysis of Chinese posts on social media.

BACKGROUND: After China lifted strict COVID-19 control measures, the winter of 2023 saw widespread outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases, including various strains of influenza, mycoplasma pneumonia, and COVID-19. These diseases have heightened the risk of repeated infections and severe illness, making health communication strategies increasingly important for health promotion. While most studies focus on message dissemination by authorities and experts, the role of patient-generated content, shared by individuals with firsthand health experiences, remains underexplored. METHODS: In this

A Bioinspired Microfluidic Nucleic Acid Sensing Platform for Rapid and Simultaneous Screening of Viral Respiratory Infections.

In the postpandemic era, to tackle the engineering challenge from the concurrent outbreak of routine and emerging viral respiratory infections, microfluidic-chip-based point-of-care screening of multiple pathogens becomes essential for decentralized epidemic diagnosis and management. Toward real-world POCT, state-of-the-art microfluidic diagnostic devices are limited by the in-plane design of the fluidic circuit, which highly relies on external pumping apparatus for sample injection and distribution and thus greatly hampers their portability and accessibility. In this work, inspired by the pum

This study investigates the epidemiological characteristics of common respiratory pathogens across three distinct periods: before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, We aimed to determine whether new trends in the transmission of respiratory pathogens would emerge as non-pharmaceutical intervention (NPIs) were gradually lifted. We analyzed the differences observed between the pre-epidemic, epidemic and post-epidemic periods. An autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) time series model was employed to predict future trends of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) infections. MP infections we
