Effects of irsogladine maleate (IM), in combination with histamine H2-receptor antagonists or a muscarinic receptor antagonist, on the formation of stress ulcer were investigated in rats. The ED50 of IM and that of cimetidine for suppressing stress ulceration were remarkably reduced when these drugs were used in combination. ED50s in this case were less than the theoretical values calculated on the basis of additive action, thereby suggesting the synergistic effect of IM and cimetidine. Vertical osteotomies were performed in the mandibles of rats and combined with elevations of the buccal or bilateral mucoperiosteal pedicles. Isotope fractionation and particle distribution were used to measure blood flow in the distal and proximal segments of the mandible, the masseter muscle and the submandibular gland. A monoclonal antibody against progesterone completely blocked pregnancy when rats were injected intraperitoneally at 0.53 mumol/kg/day on days 1 and 2, or on day 11 of a first pregnancy.
