OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate a modification of the classic Burch procedure, called "laparoscopic transobturator tape (TOT)-like Burch colposuspension." The technique does not involve any type of prosthesis placement, and it is an alternative for patients with stress urinary incontinence in a future without meshes. BACKGROUND: The cestode Hymenolepis diminuta is a cosmopolitan parasite, which in the adult stage is usually found in the small intestine of rats and accidentally in humans.
CASE REPORT: We describe the finding of eggs of this parasite in an asymptomatic 3-year-old child. The child had extremely high IgE values of 1,376 IU/ml. After receiving treatment with Albendazole suspension 400mg/20mL, on the 10th day post-treatment, he showed no H. diminuta eggs in his fecal matter.

Treatment of M avium pulmonary disease requires a three-drug, macrolide-based regimen that is administered for 12 months beyond culture conversion. The regimen can be administered 3 days a week in non-cavitary, nodular bronchiectatic disease but should be given daily when cavitary disease is present. For treatment refractory disease, amikacin liposome inhalation suspension is added to the regimen. Parenteral amikacin or streptomycin should be administered in the setting of extensive radiographic involvement or macrolide resistance. Recurrence of disease is common and often due to reinfection.

We present the case of a 53-year-old smoker woman without any relevant medical history who was attended as an outpatient due to several-month persistent odynophagia. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was performed, showing white cotton-like plaques throughout the esophagus, suggestive of candidiasis. An esophageal brushing plus biopsy sampling were done, empirically prescribing oral fluconazole for 21 days. A viral serology was also requested, with negative results.
