Individual differences in susceptibility to motion sickness among six Skylab astronauts.

One of the Skylab experiments dealt with motion sickness, comparing susceptibility in the workshop aloft with susceptibility preflight and postflight. Tests were conducted on and after mission-day 8 (MD 8) by which time the astronauts were adapted to working conditions. Stressful accelerations were generated by requiring the astronauts, with eyes covered, to execute standardized head movements (front, back, left, and right) while in a chair that could be rotated at angular velocities up to 30 rpm. The selected endpoint was either 150 discrete head movements or a very mild level of motion sickn

Does use of tangible rewards with individual children affect peer observers?

The common assumption that employing tangible rewards with individual children will have adverse effects upon peer observers was studied in the preschool setting. Multiple-subject, multiple-baseline procedures were applied to two classes of children, aged 3.5 to 6 yr. In each group, three consecutive children with low base rates of in-seat behavior received a verbal contingency and food rewards for sitting, while peers (with either low or high rates of in-seat behavior) received neither food nor teacher attention for sitting. Peer reactions measured were in-seat behavior, aggression, nonaggres

Relationship between serum leptin, lipid metabolism, HbA1c, and renal function in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity and in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus without obesity.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, impaired lipid metabolism, and insulin resistance. In addition to the traditional risk factors, recent studies have suggested that adipose tissue-derived hormones such as leptin play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of T2DM and its related complications. However, the exact mechanism underlying the relationship between serum leptin levels and these comorbidities remains unclear. The study included 222 individuals, with 74 having T2DM and obesity, 74 having T2DM without obesity, and 74 in the contro

Long-term health consequences among individuals with SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to individuals without infection: results of the population-based cohort study CoMoLo Follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Most of the previous studies on health sequelae of COVID-19 are uncontrolled cohorts and include a relatively short follow-up. This population-based multi-center cohort study examined health consequences among individuals about 1 to 1.5 years after SARS-CoV-2 infection compared with non-infected. METHODS: The study population consisted of adults (≥ 18 years) from four municipalities particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the year 2020 who completed a detailed follow-up questionnaire on health-related topics. Exposure was the SARS-CoV-2 infection status (based on IgG ant
