Navigating Continuous Glucose Monitoring Adoption: Insights From Hispanic Adults With Insulin-Treated Type 2 Diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: Hispanic individuals are disproportionately affected by type 2 diabetes (T2D) and face access limitations in diabetes technology utilization. Despite proven benefits, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) use remains low among Hispanic adults with insulin-treated T2D. This study used a social-ecological model (SEM) framework to identify societal/policy, interpersonal/community, and individual level barriers to CGM access and adoption within this population. METHODS: Two focus groups were conducted in Spanish at the University of Miami (UM) with Hispanic adults (n = 16) with T2D. Incl

Reliability-screened documentation indicators in forensic suicide narratives: A framework-evaluation study.

OBJECTIVE: Retrospective forensic and psychological autopsy materials are central to suicide research, but they are shaped by source availability, recall, retrospective meaning-making, investigative priorities, and documentation practices. Rather than developing a suicide risk model or clinical subtype classification, this study examined whether forensic suicide narratives could be transformed into a reliability-screened documentation matrix without treating documented content as verified occurrence, causal evidence, or individual-level risk information. METHOD: We conducted a retrospective f

Association between respiratory syncytial virus vaccination and medical information sources among Japanese older adults in the post-COVID-19 era: a JACSIS 2024 cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes substantial morbidity among older adults; however, RSV vaccination remains limited in Japan. Identifying effective information channels to promote RSV vaccination is particularly important in the post-COVID-19 era. METHODS: We conducted a nationwide, cross-sectional online survey in Japan among adults aged ≥60 years. The analysis examined associations between RSV vaccination status and medical information sources, knowledge regarding RSV infection and vaccination, and prior vaccination history. RESULTS: Among the 8300 participants, RSV vac

Daily Stress, Drinking Motives and Alcohol Co-Use with Other Drugs.

Background: Recent evidence indicates that alcohol and other substance co-use, compared to alcohol-only use, might be more closely associated with negative reinforcement processes, and thus more likely during periods of increased stress. The present study examined this possibility by using data from an intensive longitudinal (daily) study of college student drinkers (N = 1461, 54% women). We also examined individual differences in coping and enhancement drinking motives as predictors of alcohol and other substance co-use. Results: We used multilevel multinomial logistic regression to predict,

Correlates of antiretroviral utilization among hospitalized HIV-infected crack cocaine users.

Despite the availability of antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV-infected drug users, particularly crack cocaine users, continue to have high HIV-related morbidity and mortality. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the baseline data for hospitalized HIV-infected crack cocaine users recruited for Project HOPE (Hospital Visit Is an Opportunity for Prevention and Engagement with HIV-Positive Crack Users) in Atlanta and Miami who were eligible for ART (reported any lifetime use of ART or CD4 <350 cells/μl). Among 350 eligible participants, whose mean age was 44.9 years (SD 7.0), 49% were male,

Neurodivergence and occupational well-being: a systematic and integrative review.

Despite growing recognition of neurodiversity, many workplaces remain designed around neurotypical norms, creating challenges for the occupational well-being of neurodivergent employees. Drawing on a systematic literature review of 34 studies that examined neurodivergence in relation to well-being at work, we synthesize empirical and conceptual evidence showing that neurodivergent employees experience elevated stress, burnout, anxiety, and depression in workplaces designed around neurotypical norms and expectations. We further identify contextual factors and workplace interventions that modera

Experiences of opioid-related stigma among sexual assault survivors who use opioids in the community.

Method This qualitative study explored opioid-related stigma among adults who use opioids (N = 17) and have experienced sexual violence, recruited through community outreach and local partnerships. Semi-structured interviews examined experiences of structural, interpersonal, and internalized stigma, and transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results Five themes emerged regarding opioid use and stigma: (1) pervasive judgment and rejection fr

Depression symptoms, communication and cooperation skills, and friendship: longitudinal associations in young Norwegian children.

INTRODUCTION: Symptoms of depression in early childhood have been linked to interpersonal difficulties, whereas friendships serve a protective function. METHODS: In the present study, we examined depression symptoms in preschool age (4 years) in relation to social skills (communication and cooperation), and friendships into early school age (Grades 1 and 2) in a large subsample (n = 943) of Norwegian children. RESULTS: The results indicated that preschool depression symptoms negatively predicted Grade 1 communication skills, which in turn predicted Grade 2 depression symptoms. This pathway s

Schema Therapy for Patients with Bipolar Disorder: Theoretical Framework and Application.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe mood disorder characterized by episodes of depression and hypomania or mania. Despite its primarily biological roots, the onset and course of the disorder have also been related to psychosocial factors such as early adverse experiences and related maladaptive schemas. Several researchers proposed a schema therapeutic model to treat patients with BD. In this paper, we further develop the theoretical model and elaborate on seven elements that were found effective in the psychosocial interventions with individuals with BD: monitoring mood and early symptoms of re

A firearm double homicide committed by a paranoid neigh- bor: a psychopathological study.

Serious mental illness is associated with a higher risk of violent interpersonal behavior. Characteristic traits denoting a psychopatho-logical picture such as schizophrenia, depression, a borderline, or narcissistic, antisocial, or paranoid personality disorder, are frequently observed in the personality of those who have committed one or more murders. For example, mass murderers are affected by a delusional syndrome with a persecution fixation, that develops in a subject with a paranoid, anacastic personality disorder. An abnormal mental frame-work develops as a consequence of continual expe

Metabolomics in Sleep, Insomnia and Sleep Apnea.

Sleep-wake disorders are highly prevalent disorders, which can lead to negative effects on cognitive, emotional and interpersonal functioning, and can cause maladaptive metabolic changes. Recent studies support the notion that metabolic processes correlate with sleep. The study of metabolite biomarkers (metabolomics) in a large-scale manner offers unique opportunities to provide insights into the pathology of diseases by revealing alterations in metabolic pathways. This review aims to summarize the status of metabolomic analyses-based knowledge on sleep disorders and to present knowledge in un
