A New Surgical Field Expansion Technique in Robot-Assisted Gastrectomy: "Bursal Space Lifting Approach".

INTRODUCTION: Achieving stable exposure in the deep upper stomach remains technically challenging during robot-assisted gastrectomy, particularly in single-port surgery where the range of traction and assistant instrumentation is inherently limited. MATERIALS AND SURGICAL TECHNIQUE: We developed a simple surgical field expansion method, termed the "Bursal Space Lifting Approach," based on the integration of established anatomical dissection planes routinely used in gastrectomy. After opening the omental bursa, a soft gauze strip with attached sutures is passed through the created pathway and

Comparative effectiveness of robotic and video assisted thoracic surgery for lung cancer across key outcomes.

Robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) are widely used for minimally invasive resection of pulmonary tumors, but they differ in technical capabilities and resource demands. We conducted a PRISMA-based systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized and cohort studies identified by searching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library through June 2025. Across 25 studies including 41,417 patients, RATS was associated with lower conversion to thoracotomy rates and less blood loss, more extensive lymphadenectomy, higher R0 r

Dual-Modal Safety Framework for Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy via Endoscopic Vision and Haptic Feedback.

BACKGROUND: Teleoperated flexible bronchoscopy lacks distal haptic feedback, increasing the risk of unobservable iatrogenic tissue trauma during endoluminal exploration. METHODS: This study proposes a robot-assisted bronchoscopy system integrated with a dual-modal safety framework. A visual module utilises image moments to provide predictive alerts for collision avoidance. Concurrently, a Transformer-based network estimates distal interaction torques from proximal actuation, enabling real-time haptic perception at the leader console. RESULTS: Phantom validations across fragile tissue rupture

Editorial Commentary: From Wet Socks to Surgical Robots: Arthroscopy Innovation Still Starts With Surgeons.

Arthroscopy has grown from a frontier of surgeon-led problem solving into a mature technological field shaped by surgical innovation, industry partnerships, patent attorneys, and corporate strategy. This maturation of the field should be celebrated, and surely it should not be mistaken for stagnation. Although modern patent processes can be expensive and difficult for individual surgeons to navigate, the source of innovation has not changed: surgeons identifying practical problems and imagining better solutions. The future of arthroscopy will not be defined by patent volume alone but by whethe

Automated implementation of the SwabSeq COVID-19 diagnostic assay on the opentrons flex liquid-handling robot.

The SwabSeq COVID-19 diagnostic assay [7] enables scalable SARS-CoV-2 detection using next-generation sequencing (NGS) of barcoded samples without RNA extraction. To adapt this approach for routine clinical use, we developed a fully automated workflow on the Opentrons FLEX liquid-handling platform. Automated pre-PCR setup processed 96 samples in approximately 15 min with minimal hands-on time, while post-PCR thermocycling, pooling, and solid-phase reversible immobilization (SPRI) bead cleanup were completed autonomously in about 2.5 h. The automated workflow produced results highly concordant

Robotic-Assisted Resection of a Giant Mesenteric Lymphangioma in a 36-Year-Old Woman: A Case Report.

We report a case of a 36-year-old woman who presented with acute abdominal pain and repeated episodes of nonbilious vomiting. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated a large, multiloculated cystic lesion measuring approximately 15 × 10 × 8 cm within the small bowel mesentery, without solid components or radiologic features suggestive of malignancy. Because of the patient's symptoms, lesion size, and close relationship to mesenteric vessels, robotic-assisted resection was performed with adjunctive indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging to facilitate intraoperative vascular asse
