Cross-over replantation is a salvage option for cases with bilateral extremity amputations where the wound conditions do not enable an orthotopic replantation. Here, we present a 24-year-old patient who applied to our center with bilateral transhumeral amputations. Due to the wound conditions, a cross-over replantation was performed. 24 months after the initial operation, the patient exhibits good protective sensation at the distal levels and function to some degree, whereas the active range of motion is not as promising as previously expected. In this article, we present this case together wi

Recurrent hemorrhagic shoulder is a rare entity that is scarcely addressed in the literature. We describe a case of recurrent hemorrhagic shoulder and review treatment options for this unusual disorder.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 120 cases of posterior sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) dislocation have been documented in the medical literature since it was first described in 1824 by Sir Astley Cooper, a statistic which underlies its relative rarity. It is associated with high energy trauma, and although it may present innocently enough, it is a potentially life threatening injury.
CASE AND RESULTS: We describe a case in which there was no clinical evidence of complication, although CT imaging revealed complete obstruction of the brachiocephalic vein and impingement of the aorta. This required open

The diagnosis and management of pain in the patient with traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be difficult in light of the limitations imposed by the cognitive, language, and behavioral deficits. With patients in the acute rehabilitation setting, one must be vigilant for the often subtle signs and symptoms of pain. Causes more commonly seen in the population with TBI as a consequence of the injury itself include dysautonomia, neuropathic pain, spasticity, and heterotopic ossification. Headaches may be a consequence of TBI or associated with it for other reasons. Sources of pain associated with TBI

This article provides an overview of common upper extremity injuries in youth sports, including injuries to the shoulder, elbow, and wrist. Pain in the shoulder and elbow is common among youngsters who participate in throwing sports, raquet sports, and swimming, while wrist pain is common among young gymnasts. Acute trauma to the shoulder and elbow can occur in almost any sporting activity. This article provides descriptions of common injuries and guidelines for treatment.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of treatment of symptomatic mal- and/or nonunion of midshaft clavicle fractures using radiographically based free-hand open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or computer-assisted 3D-planned, personalized corrective osteotomies performed using patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) and ORIF. The hypotheses were that (1) patients treated with computer-assisted planning and PSI would have a better clinical outcome, and (2) computer-assisted surgical planning would achieve a more accurate restoration of an

INTRODUCTION: Metacarpal shaft fractures require techniques that balance stability with rapid rehabilitation. Conventional crossed K‑wires are minimally invasive yet provide limited interfragmentary compression and may compromise reduction, whereas mini‑plates offer rigid fixation at the expense of larger incisions, longer operative time, and higher cost. Building on these trade‑offs, we evaluated a transverse K‑wire technique across adjacent metacarpals augmented with the Nice knot. In our cohort, this approach delivered perioperative efficiencies-no secondary surgery, shorter operative time,

BACKGROUND: Nonoperative management of proximal humeral fractures (PHFs) is the most common treatment, but its functional outcome may improve with early mobilization. In frail osteoporotic patients, quick recovery of prefracture independency is mandatory. This study assessed fracture displacement in PHFs managed with conservative treatment after early mobilization and a home-based self-exercise program.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the radiologic displacement of fracture fragments of PHFs treated conservatively with early mobilization and a home-based self-exercise program.

BACKGROUND: Enchondromas and atypical cartilaginous tumors (ACT) are often located at the proximal humerus. Most lesions can be followed conservatively, but surgical resection may alleviate pain, avoid pathological fractures, and prevent transformation into higher grade chondrosarcomas. Rigorous intralesional resection and filling with polymethylmethacrylate bone cement has been proposed for enchondromas but also for ACT, as an alternative for extralesional resection. We intended to analyze radiological, clinical, and functional outcome of this strategy and compare bone cement without osteosyn

BACKGROUND: The present video article describes the far posterior or paraspinal approach to posterior rib fractures. This approach is utilized to optimize visualization intraoperatively in cases of far-posterior rib fractures. This technique is also muscle-sparing, and muscle-sparing posterolateral, axillary, and anterior approaches have been shown to return up to 95% of periscapular strength by 6 months postoperatively1.
DESCRIPTION: Like most fractures, the skin incision depends on the fracture position. The vertical incision is made either just medial to a line equidistant between the palp

BACKGROUND: The usefulness of arthroscopic Bankart repair for collision/contact athletes has varied in previous reports.
PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of glenoid rim morphologic characteristics on the clinical outcome after arthroscopic Bankart repair without additional reinforcement procedures in male collision/contact athletes, including athletes with a large glenoid defect.
STUDY DESIGN: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3.
METHODS: Eighty-six athletes (93 shoulders) followed for a minimum of 2 years were retrospectively investigated. The sports were rugby (36 shoulders), Am

BACKGROUND: The incidence of humerus fractures while participating in snowboarding and skiing is undefined. Very little is known about the risk factors associated with these fractures.
HYPOTHESIS: Snowboarders are at increased risk for sustaining humerus fractures when compared with skiers. In addition, the types of fractures, laterality, and risk factors differ between the 2 groups.
STUDY DESIGN: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3.
METHODS: At a major ski area clinic, 318 humerus fractures were evaluated over 34 seasons. Radiographs were classified according to the AO and Neer system

BACKGROUND: Initially indicated for diabetes mellitus (DM), glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists are now indicated for obesity management in isolation of DM. While prior studies have examined post-operative outcomes after total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) in GLP-1 users with DM, there is a paucity of literature evaluating its use in non-diabetic patients for weight loss rather than glucose control. Therefore, our analysis compared 90-day and 2-year outcomes following TSA between non-diabetic obese GLP-1 users and a matched cohort of obese GLP-1 non-users.

INTRODUCTION: Few multicenter studies have analyzed the outcome of revision surgery of radial head arthroplasties (RHA) in the medium term follow up. The objective is twofold: to determine the factors associated with revision of RHAs and to analyze the results of revision with 2 surgical techniques: isolated removal of the RHA or revision with a new RHA (R-RHA).
HYPOTHESIS: There are associated factors of RHA revision and RHA revision results in satisfactory clinical and functional outcomes.
METHODS: Twenty-eight patients were included in this multicenter retrospective study, with all surgic
