BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbances are highly prevalent among individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI)and pose a significant barrier to both functional recovery and long-term quality of life. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a widely validated non-pharmacological intervention, has demonstrated robust efficacy in managing sleep disorders across diverse populations. However, its therapeutic effectiveness in individuals with brain injuries has yet to be systematically evaluated.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to systematically evaluate and meta-analyze the efficacy of CBT for sleep disturbances

Growing research indicates that sleep problems are a robust independent risk factor for suicidal thoughts and behaviors among youth. However, relatively little is known about how this risk is conferred. This study used an intensive longitudinal design to investigate anhedonia as a mechanism linking sleep problems and next-day suicidal thoughts in a clinically high-risk sample of adolescents. Adolescents (N = 48; Mage=14.96; 77.1% white, 64.6% female) completed an ecological momentary assessment (EMA) study design for 28 days following discharge from acute psychiatric care for suicide risk. BACKGROUND: Delirium is considered a severe complication. It increases morbidity and mortality and represents a major financial burden for healthcare systems. Thus, prevention becomes a focal point of research. Sleep disturbances have been linked to the occurrence of delirium. Consequently, several interventions that target a possible connection have been studied in recent years.
OBJECTIVE: This narrative literature review explores the published data for an association between delirium and different types of sleep disturbances, the pathophysiological interactions and prevention methods.

OBJECTIVE: Steroids play an essential role in treating pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The downside is that these drugs can cause severe side effects, such as adverse psychological reactions (APRs) and sleep problems, which can compromise health-related quality of life. This study aimed to systematically review literature to identify risk factors for steroid-induced APRs and sleep problems in children with ALL.
METHODS: A systematic search was performed in six databases. Titles/abstracts were independently screened by two researchers. Data from each included study was extracted

OBJECTIVE: Repetitive sleep starts (RSS) are clusters of nonepileptic, spasm-like movements occurring during sleep onset. However, their characteristics have yet to be defined. We conducted a clinicoelectroencephalographic study of children with RSS to clarify their detailed characteristics.
METHODS: To differentiate starts from epileptic spasms, we recruited children with brief "crescendo-decrescendo" muscle contractions that simultaneously involved the limbs and trunk without electroencephalogram changes, and that fulfilled the following criteria: (1) repeated occurrence (five or more) and

Michel Jouvet proposed in 1959 that REM sleep is a paradoxical state since it was characterized by the association of a cortical activation similar to wakefulness (W) with muscle atonia. Recently, we showed using cFos as a marker of activity that cortical activation during paradoxical sleep (PS) was limited to a few limbic cortical structures in contrast to W during which all cortices were strongly activated. However, we were not able to demonstrate whether the same neurons are activated during PS and W and to rule out that the activation observed was not linked with stress induced by the flow

Sleep deficiency in children is a public health concern, and it is highly comorbid in pediatric chronic pain conditions. Children may be particularly vulnerable to the deleterious effects of sleep deficiency, because comorbid sleep deficiency in chronic pain may further exacerbate already existent symptoms of pain, anxiety, depressions, daytime function, and increase health care use. Sleep deficiency is modifiable and integrating human-centered approaches into the development of sleep interventions is a pragmatic approach to partner with parents and children to provide them with the knowledge,

Sleep and depression are interlinked throughout the lifespan, but very few studies have examined the directionality of the sleep-depression link in children. The aim of the current study was to prospectively examine the bidirectional association between sleep problems and internalizing problems and depressive symptoms in toddlers and children aged 1.5 and 8 years. Data stem from the large ongoing population-based longitudinal study, the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study, recruited from October 1999 to July 2009. A total of 35,075 children were included. Information on sleep durat
