Anal apocrine carcinoma: a case report and literature review.

Apocrine carcinoma (AC) is an extremely rare skin appendage tumor, which is located at lower dermal and subcutaneous tissue. We report a case of an anal AC arising from an apocrine adenoma in the anal region, which is only the second case reported in this region. A 71-year-old male presented to clinic with soreness in the anal region for 6 weeks. An excisional biopsy was performed. Histologically, the lesion was poorly circumscribed, infiltrative, and was composed of small to medium sized glands extending to the surgical margins. There were centrally dilated large glands with duct-like opening

Treatment of hyperhidrosis with botulinum toxin.

Botulinum toxin type A is a safe and effective method for treating focal hyperhidrosis, providing longer-lasting results than topical treatments without the necessity of invasive surgical procedures. Although more useful for axillary hyperhidrosis, botulinum toxin injections can also be effective in treating palmar and plantar disease. The effects of botulinum toxin last for six to nine months on average, and treatment is associated with a high satisfaction rate among patients. In this article, the authors discuss their preferred methods for treating axillary, palmar, and plantar hyperhidrosis

Facial blanching due to neurotoxins: proposed mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: The effect of perceived facial blanching with neurotoxin therapy has been described in the literature and has been used to treat the undesirable facial flushing of Frey's syndrome. Patients rarely report it as a complication after cosmetic injection, but it can be distressing. OBJECTIVES: To elucidate the proposed mechanism(s) of this unusual vasculocutaneous phenomenon, we reviewed normal physiologic responses to heat stress and the role of cholinergic neurotransmission in modulating cutaneous vascular tone in the context of the literature. MATERIALS/METHODS: We report a case of

Malignant chondroid syringoma: report of a case with lymph node metastasis 12 years after local excision.

A 46-year-old man noticed a nodule on his sole. The nodule was removed and the specimen showed a lobular proliferation of tumor cells with glandular differentiation embedded in mucinous stroma. A diagnosis of chondroid syringoma was made. Twelve years later, he noted a swelling in the right inguinal region. The mass was surgically removed. The histopathological findings of the lymph node showed the more atypical tumor cells in the mucoid stroma. Upon reexamination, the primary tumor contained malignant chondroid syringoma (MCS) cells; the tumor cells metastasized to lymph node. MCS is rare wit

[Combined tumor of ceruminous gland origin in the external auditory canal--a histopathological and immunohistochemical study].

OBJECTIVES: We present a case of a combined tumor consisting of solid tubular gland adenoma (TA) and syringocystadenoma papilliferum (SCAP) of the external auditory canal and review of the literature on this subject. METHODS: Tumour of the external auditory canal was removed by retroauricular approach with good clinical outcome. Histopathological and immunohistochemical study was performed. RESULTS: In the histopathological assessment tumour revealed an extraordinary combination of syringocystadenoma papilliferum and ceruminous tubular gland adenoma pattern. It was positive for epithelial ma

[Unusual axillary apocrine carcinoma of the skin: histological diagnostic difficulties].

BACKGROUND: Apocrine carcinoma of the skin (ACS) is a rare adnexal neoplasm presenting as an indurated slow-growing dermal or subcutaneous plaque that often occurs in the axilla. Histological distinction between ACS and cutaneous metastases of breast carcinoma may be difficult. OBSERVATION: A 64-year-old man presented with a slowly growing left axillary mass, which he had noticed for 2 years, without any other functional or clinical symptoms. Histological examination of the skin biopsy showed dermal invasion with atypical cells in an "Indian file" pattern. The pattern of the tumour and immuno

Eccrine syringofibroadenoma associated with well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma.

We report a case of an eccrine syringofibroadenoma (ESFA) associated with well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. The patient was an 85-year-old man, who had a 2.5x2.5-cm, brown-colored ulcerated nodule, with a fragile, flesh-colored bleeding surface located beyond the metacarpophalangeal joint of the second finger of his left hand. Histopathologically, there were areas of a well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, alternating with the typical area of ESFA characterized by anastomosing cords, strands, and columns of epithelial cells extending from the crusted epidermis into a thickene

Keratin profiles may differ between intraepidermal and intradermal invasive eccrine porocarcinoma.

We report two cases of eccrine porocarcinoma (EPC), one of intrepidermal EPC (IEEPC) and one of intradermal invasive EPC (IDEPC) in an immunohistochemical study of cytokeratins (CK) using nine different anti-keratin antibodies against CK1, 7, 8, 10, 14, 16, 17, 18 and 19. IEEPC expressed terminal differentiated CK1 and CK10. In contrast, IDEPC expressed simple-epithelial keratins such as CK7, 8, 18 and 19. Keratin expression of IEEPC preserves the immunophenotypes of normal epidermis. IDEPC, however, expresses poorly differentiated keratin. These results suggest that the keratin profiles of EP

[Eccrine poroma of the scalp: A study of three cases].

The eccrine poroma is a rare benign sudoral tumour, which creates a fleshy formation. The diagnosis is made according to the anatomopathological study. The usual site is the sol, but in rare cases, other sites have also been reported. The authors report three cases of eccrine poroma localised in the scalp with literature review.

Polymorphous vascular patterns in dermoscopy as a sign of malignant skin tumors. A case of an amelanotic melanoma and a porocarcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Using dermoscopy (dermatoscopy, epiluminescence microscopy), malignant skin tumors can be detected earlier and unnecessary excisions of benign tumors can be avoided. OBJECTIVE: Description of the dermoscopic vascular patterns of an amelanotic melanoma and a porocarcinoma. METHODS: Dermoscopy of an amelanotic melanoma and a porocarcinoma at 10-fold magnification. RESULTS: On dermoscopy polymorphous vascular patterns with pinpoint and hairpin-like vessels were seen. CONCLUSION: A reddish tumor without any pigmented network, globules or streaks but with polymorphous vascular patte
