The aim of this study is to review 9 cases with urinary tract hydatid disease in terms of symptoms, findings, laboratory tests, radiological findings and treatment modalities. There were 7 males and 2 females with a mean age of 33.6 years (range from 7 to 67 years). In 6 patients hydatid cyst was located in the kidney (1 involved the liver), in 2 the cysts were in the paravesical and retrovesical region (1 coexisted bladder tumor) and 1 the cyst was located adrenal gland. Although iliac artery injuries caused by pelvic fractures are uncommon, in special circumstances, such as earthquakes, traumatic arterial injury should be carefully investigated. This reports describes a case of an iliac artery pseudoaneurysm causing compressive symptoms that was successfully treated by radiologic embolization.

OBJECTIVE: This study examined the interobserver and intra-observer reliability of the Turkish version of the Behçet's Disease Current Activity Form (BDCAF), which was obtained by a translation and back-translation process.

We assessed the prevalence of symptoms suggestive of asthma in Turkish Cypriot schoolchildren and the associated risk factors using a slightly modified version of the ISAAC (International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood) questionnaire. The questionnaire and questions regarding risk factors were issued to the parents of 2,822 children aged six to 14 years. The response rate was 89.6 percent. Gas phase pollutants and major ions were measured in the Sarýalan region of Uludağ Mountain, which is experiencing severe deforestation. Short- and long-term trends in the concentration of the gas pollutants were computed from the samples obtained in order to identify the source of these pollutants. The investigations of personality traits have been the issue of many studies on patients with headache. Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) is the most popular assessment instrument used in these studies. HLA B27 and other clinical findings were investigated in 18 Turkish patients with Reiter's syndrome (mean age 35.8 +/- 8.09). Male/female ratio was 2/1. All 18 patients were seronegative, 12 (66.6%) presenting with an asymmetrical oligoarticular arthritis. Radiological sacroiliitis and enthesopathy was found in 9 (50%) and 7 (45.6%) patients respectively. HLA B27 was present in 11 (61.1%) patients.

A 20-year-old male Turkish immigrant to Norway suffering from severe chronic neurobrucellosis with spastic paraplegia and deafness is presented. The diagnosis was established by isolation of Brucella melitensis from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) culture. Brucella antibody agglutination titers were high in serum and CSF. In spite of intensive, prolonged treatment with a combination of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TPM-SMZ), rifampicin and doxycycline, the course of the illness was characterized by relapses and severe neurological defects.

In August 1988, following a luncheon, an explosive epidemic of pharyngitis due to group A streptococci (M type 11, T type 3/13/B3264 and opacity factor positive) occurred among the staff of an institution in Ankara. The presence of antibodies and their titers against Coxsackie B virus type 2 and type 3 (CBV-2 and CBV-3) have been investigated in 208 blood donor's sera obtained from blood Bank of Gülhane Military Medical Academy. The seropositivity against Coxsackie B virus type 2 and type 3 have been determined 59.1% (123/208) and 7.2% (15/208) respectively. These findings suggest that Coxsackie B virus type 2 infections may be present more widely than Coxsackie B virus type 3 infections in our country.

Four hundred stool samples obtained from two different primary school students were examined for intestinal parasite. Cellophane tape technique was also applied in order to detect the Enterobiasis incidence. It has been observed that the parasite incidence were 13.5% in TED College Students whereas 30.5% in the Incesu Primary School. It has been also concluded that the highest infection rate was connected with two parasites, namely Giardia intestinalis (11.5%) and Enterobius vermicularis (8%).

The study investigated the relationship between the occurrence and intensity of nailbiting in a Turkish student population and the association with questionnaire measures of oral aggression, trait anxiety and intropunitive and extrapunitive hostility. The results indicated that the most consistent trait associated with nailbiting was oral aggression. Taken together with other previous research these findings are thought to offer some support to the construct of oral personality.
