INTRODUCTION: This study was undertaken to assess the influence of labor and cesarean section on endothelial function.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Flow-mediated vasodilatation (FMD) was measured before and after delivery for an assessment of endothelial function in three groups: (1) the Vaginal delivery group (with spontaneous labor or induction of labor, n = 48), (2) the Elective C/S group (with a cesarean planned, n = 20), and (3) the C/S after FP group (scheduled for vaginal delivery but required to have an emergency cesarean section because of failure in progress, n = 11).

Cyanosis is an ominous physical sign indicating significant cardiac or respiratory disease. However, bluish discolouration mimicking cyanosis could occur in methaemoglobinaemia. The clinical implications being very different, it is important that the aetiology of bluish discolouration of tissues is correctly identified. A case is reported where the antianginal agent nicorandil was identified as the most likely cause for methaemoglobinaemia.

Subglottic hemangioma is a rare but life- threatening condition which requires intervention. It generally starts proliferating in the first and second months of lifespan and whether there is a respiration problem or not, it causes biphasic stridor. Subglottic haemangioma (SGH) is the rare condition of an infantile haemangioma in the subglottic space. The diagnostics is complicated due to the clinical symptoms mimicking pseudocroup, and difficulties in visualization of the subglottic space. A two-month-old girl with a cycle of repeated hospitalizations due to recurrent and progressive croupal cough and stridor was diagnosed with SGH by laryngoscopy and initiated propranolol treatment with effect after 48 hours. SGH is rare but should be kept in mind in infants with recurrent croupal cough and stridor.

A 33-year-old male receiving dorsal penile nerve block (DPNB) for circumcision exhibited a postoperative ischemic change over the glans penis. The event occurred nearly 24 hours after the procedure. The patient was treated with intravenous pentoxifyllin and hyperbaric oxygenation. Total reverse of the ischemia was observed. The complications associated with circumcision and DPNB were reviewed and discussed.
