BACKGROUND: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a severe multifactorial disease associated with impaired pulmonary hemodynamics, leading to right ventricular (RV) hypertrophy and failure. Induction of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and/or activation of cannabinoid CB1 receptor (CB1R) is associated with pro-inflammatory, pro-fibrotic, and pro-hypertrophic effects. AIMS: The mechanisms underlying the beneficial effect of ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) in patients with heart failure (HF) and iron deficiency (ID) have not been completely characterized. The Myocardial-IRON trial was a double-blind, randomized trial that evaluated myocardial iron repletion following FCM vs. placebo in 53 patients with HF and ID. In this post hoc analysis, we evaluated whether treatment with FCM was associated with cardiac magnetic resonance changes in left and right ventricular function (LVEF and RVEF, respectively) at different points of systolic dysfunction.

OBJECTIVE: To review the spectrum of double-chambered right ventricle (DCRV) and the outcome of surgical repair in patients diagnosed between February 1988 and March 1999.
DESIGN: The charts of patients with DCRV were studied.
SETTING: Tertiary care hospital.

The aim of this study was to assess the result of surgical repair of Fallot's tetralogy (FT) and to advise physical and sporting activities. Thirty-two patients (20 boys and 12 girls) underwent correction of FT either before 4 years of age (14 cases) or after (18 cases).
