OBJECTIVE: To determine the Essure placement failure rate and analyze factors associated with failure in an urban, nonstudy population at a university medical center.
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective study was conducted of women who underwent attempted Essure hysteroscopic sterilization at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) from January 1, 2003, to June 30, 2007.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: To compare contrast infusion sonogram (CIS) to hysterosalpingogram (HSG) for use as a 3-month confirmation test after Essure.
DESIGN: Pilot study (Canadian Task Force classification II-2).
SETTING: Healthy women in an academic multispecialty group.
PATIENTS: Seventeen women desiring permanent sterilization who had had successful bilateral Essure placement within 12 weeks.
INTERVENTION: Contrast infusion sonography was performed and immediately followed by an HSG at the same appointment, between 1 and 12 weeks after Essure placement.

Cornual pregnancy is a rare condition. The morbidity and mortality are directly related to the length of time for diagnosis. The present paper reports a case of unruptured left cornual pregnancy which was diagnosed by the patient's symptom, physical examination and positive urine pregnancy test. Ultrasonography confirmed the diagnosis. Left cornual resection was carried out in the present case without immediate or long-term complication.

There have been few reports of artificial insemination using fresh feline semen because of difficulties in collecting semen. It has been shown previously that the number of spermatozoa required for fertilization of cats by intravaginal insemination and unilateral intrauterine horn insemination are 8.0 x 10(7) and 8.0 x 10(6), respectively. There have been no reports of intratubal insemination of cats. Therefore, a study was designed to determine the number of spermatozoa necessary to fertilize cats by intratubal insemination with fresh semen. Four male and 25 mixed breed female cats were used.

A 48 year old African American woman presented with bladder pressure leading to the diagnosis of broad ligament and multiple uterine leiomyomas. She was also found to have a lateral vaginal wall mass which was confirmed to be a leiomyoma. Unlike uterine leiomyomas, vaginal leiomyomas are uncommon and are most often found in Caucasian women. Cases of such coexisting tumors are rare and their etiologic relationship is uncertain.
