Access to the stomach for long-term enteral feeding or decompression can be achieved with numerous methods. The methods include laparotomy, gastroscopy, laparoscopy, and fluoroscopy. All methods have been shown to be safe and effective. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) was introduced by Ponsky in 1990, and laparoscopic gastrostomy was introduced 10 years later. Two management patterns were identified in 36 patients with exomphalos--primary surgical closure and initial topical therapy with delayed surgical closure. OBJECTIVE: A case of extreme microstomia in an 8-month-old infant is presented. As a result of caustic acid ingestion at the age of a few weeks, the male infant developed progressive stricture of the perioral region preventing him from normal food intake.

BACKGROUND: Evidence relating to the effect of early weaning on infant weight and weight gain is conflicting. The aim of this paper is to compare weight and weight gain in two groups of infants; one group weaned before 4 months (early weaned), the other weaned at 4 months or after.
