Unrestricted insurance coverage of buprenorphine formulations remains sparse in comparison to conventional opioids.

OBJECTIVE: Buprenorphine is an atypical opioid with analgesic efficacy and a more favorable safety profile than conventional opioids or tramadol. In 2019, access to on-label buprenorphine formulations was limited in comparison to conventional opioids, despite evidence supporting buprenorphine's first-line analgesic use. Considering recent policy changes increasing buprenorphine accessibility, we determined differences in unrestricted insurance coverage between buprenorphine, conventional opioids, and other atypical opioids. METHODS: We used data from Managed Market Insights and Technology's C

Analysis of the current status and influencing factors of kinesiophobia in tumor patients with peripherally inserted central catheter: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) are widely utilized in tumor patients due to their lower risk of complications, extended indwelling duration, reduced local tissue trauma, and overall cost-effectiveness. Based on the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) theory, this study aims to explore the current status and influencing factors of kinesiophobia in tumor patients with PICCs. The study provides reference for clarifying the mechanism of kinesiophobia and developing nursing intervention plans. METHOD: Through convenience sampling, 162 tumor patients who underwent PIC

Psychedelics in functional disorders: A scoping review.

Functional disorders, characterised by symptoms unexplained by organic disease, impose a significant burden on individuals and healthcare systems. Existing treatments are limited in efficacy, with no effective pharmacotherapies. There is growing evidence supporting the treatment potential of psychedelics in neuropsychiatric conditions, including several distinct functional disorders. This scoping review explores existing studies using classic psychedelics in functional disorders to identify current knowledge, highlight evidence gaps, and inform future research. Four databases (MEDLINE, PsycINF

Utility of left wrist arterial access for neuroendovascular intervention and diagnostic cervicocerebral angiography: A single-center experience.

BACKGROUND: Transradial access is increasingly used in neuroendovascular procedures because it improves patient comfort and reduces access-site complications compared with transfemoral approaches. Most reported experience concerns right radial access, and the role of left wrist access is less well characterized. We evaluated left wrist access for diagnostic cerebral angiography and neuroendovascular intervention. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent neuroendovascular procedures using left wrist access at a single university health system between April 2019 and August 20

BACKGROUND: Testing for HIV, linkage to treatment, and access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) (medication that reduces the risk of acquiring HIV) is essential for early HIV diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. General practice could play a key role in maximising HIV testing opportunities and supporting access to PrEP. AIM: To develop an intervention for general practice to increase HIV testing and facilitate access to PrEP. DESIGN AND SETTING: This was a person-based approach (PBA) intervention development study using the capability, opportunity, motivation, behaviour model in South West

Myotonic Dystrophy (DM) Burden of Disease: A Retrospective Study of Healthcare Costs and Utilization by Individuals With DM.

INTRODUCTION/AIMS: Healthcare utilization and costs in myotonic dystrophy (DM) are not well understood. This study describes the burden of DM and its associated costs. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study using data from a large U.S. administrative claims database to identify commercially insured individuals with DM and compared healthcare utilization and cost with a matched cohort. Analyses were performed between the cohorts with ≥ 3 years of insured follow-up. RESULTS: We identified 1182 DM individuals with coverage at least 3 year prior and 3 years following an index DM diagnosis f

The Biopsychosocial Model in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Narrative Review.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major global health concern and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. More than hundreds of millions of individuals are affected due to its rise at an alarming rate. Its prevalence is influenced by multiple factors, including socioeconomic status, biological and environmental factors. These factors interact in complex ways to determine the progression of the disease, its onset and outcomes in the long run. Socioeconomic status, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, in addition to gender differences, plays a significant role in disease burd

Predictive Modeling of the Risk of Hyperglycemia in Psoriasis Patients Using Machine Learning: A Multicenter Retrospective Study.

PURPOSE: This study aims to develop and validate machine learning models for predicting hyperglycemia risk in psoriasis patients. METHODS: Clinical data from 575 psoriasis patients admitted to the Department of Dermatology were collected and randomly split into a training set and an internal test set in a 7:3 ratio. An external test set was derived from 135 psoriasis patients enrolled in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) during 2003-2004 and 2011-2012. Eleven machine learning algorithms, including decision trees, random forests, extreme gradient boosting (XGboost),

Psychiatric Inpatient Length of Stay and Needs: A Cluster Analysis using Machine Learning Algorithms.

Understanding distinct inpatient profiles among individuals with mental health disorders (MHD) can inform service planning and the development of targeted interventions. This study aimed to identify patient profiles based on hospital length of stay (LOS) and associated needs, predisposing, and enabling factors. A total of 600 MHD patients hospitalized in Quebec (Canada) between 2012 and 2018 were interviewed. Using K-means cluster analysis, three distinct profiles were identified and compared based on their clinical and sociodemographic characteristics. Profile 1 (27%) included mostly younger

Artificial intelligence in blood donor management: A narrative review.

Blood transfusions are vital in health care, yet maintaining an adequate and safe blood supply remains a significant challenge. To address blood donation-associated challenges, this review explores how integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can improve donor recruitment, retention and management. For instance, robotic process automation can streamline repetitive administrative tasks, allowing staff to focus on more critical activities and improving efficiency. When augmented with AI techniques such as machine learning (ML) and natural language processing, it transitions from sta
