School-entry age and academic difficulties at 7 years of age in children born very preterm: A call for age-corrected schooling: School-entry age and academic difficulties at 7 years of age in children born very preterm.

BACKGROUND: Very preterm children are at greater risk of academic difficulties (AD). Some of them start school a year earlier than anticipated during pregnancy due to being born preterm. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between neurodevelopment, school-entry age, and AD at age seven. METHOD: AD were assessed at age seven in children born before 33 weeks of gestation between January 1st, 2007 and December 31, 2014 and enrolled in LIFT cohort. To analyze the relationship between school-entry age and AD, we used generalized equations with adjustment for perinatal, socio-econ

Usefulness of combined bypass surgery for moyamoya disease in infants under 1 year of age: A technical case report.

BACKGROUND: Among pediatric cases of moyamoya disease (MMD), cerebral ischemic symptoms often progress and worsen rapidly in infants under one year of age; therefore, it is important to treat them as early as possible. However, direct bypass surgery is often technically difficult for infants due to their small blood vessels. Here, we describe our technique to resolve the technical challenges encountered during superficial temporal artery-to-middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) bypass surgery in infants aged <1 year with MMD, focusing on specific procedures. CASE DESCRIPTION: We performed bilatera

A Case-Based Curriculum on Buprenorphine for Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder Among Internal Medicine Residents.

BACKGROUND: As the mandatory X-waiver requirements for prescribing buprenorphine have recently been lifted, general practitioners are being relied on to fill the treatment gap in prescribing medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). However, insufficient clinician education remains a major barrier to prescribing MOUD in both inpatient and outpatient settings. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a new MOUD curriculum on internal medicine (IM) residents' attitudes, comfort, and knowledge of buprenorphine in the inpatient and outpatient settings. METHODS: All second-year IM residents (n = 46

Ensuring Continuity of Tuberculosis Care during Social Distancing through Integrated Active Case Finding at COVID-19 Vaccination Events in Vietnam: A Cohort Study.

COVID-19 significantly disrupted tuberculosis (TB) services in Vietnam. In response, the National TB Program (NTP) integrated TB screening using mobile chest X-rays into COVID-19 vaccination events. This prospective cohort study evaluated the integrated model's yield, treatment outcomes, and costs. We further fitted regressions to identify risk factors and conduct interrupted time-series analyses in the study area, Vietnam's eight economic regions, and at the national level. At 115 events, we conducted 48,758 X-ray screens and detected 174 individuals with TB. We linked 89.7% to care, while 92

Revealing the Interlayer Interaction Forces in 2D Graphene Materials by Graphene-Wrapped Nanoprobe.

Understanding the interlayer interaction between 2D layered structures is critical for the construction of various micro- and nanoscale functional devices. However, both the normal and the tangential interlayer interactions between 2D layered materials have rarely been studied simultaneously. In this work, an immersion and lift-up method is proposed to wrap a layer of graphene flakes onto a plasma-pretreated atomic force microscopy (AFM) nanoprobe for the measurements of interaction forces by AFM. The normal interactions (adhesion force and adhesion energy) and tangential interactions (frictio

Urban transformation of lakes and its impacts on a lake series: A case study of the yele mallappa shetty lake series Bengaluru, India.

The interconnected systems of lakes of Bengaluru, India, experience tremendous stress due to unsustainable urbanisation. Traditional lake-centric research approach struggles to capture and address this issue due to the cascaded nature of impacts in interconnected lake systems. Hence, this study assesses the impact of urbanisation on a lake series scale, focusing on the Yele Mallappa Shetty Lake series (YMSLS). Land use land cover change analysis (1993-2023) showed that in 1993, the YMSLS catchment area was dominated by open spaces (53.4%) and agriculture land and vegetation (35%), with built-u

Nasoalveolar Molding Therapy in a Newborn With Cleft Lip and Palate: A Case Report.

Cleft lip and palate are common congenital deformities that significantly impact facial anatomy and function, often requiring surgical intervention to correct. Presurgical nasoalveolar molding (NAM) therapy has emerged as an effective nonsurgical approach to improve surgical outcomes by reducing the severity of clefts and molding the alveolar, lip, and nasal segments into more favorable positions. This case report describes the use of NAM therapy in a 15-day-old patient with unilateral cleft lip, palate, and nasal involvement to improve outcomes before cheiloplasty. The patient presented with

Technical Refinements for Reducing Reoperations in Single-Stage Augmentation Mastopexy: A Retrospective Matched Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: The goals of mastopexy differ significantly from those of augmentation mammoplasty. Mastopexy is designed to lift and reshape the breasts, while augmentation mammoplasty is designed to increase the volume of the breasts. This conflict causes that one-stage augmentation mastopexies showed a revision rate from 8.7 to 23.2%. The aim of our study is to present some technical refinements for reducing the risk of implant exposure and reoperation. METHODS: We designed a retrospective matched cohort study, including 216 consecutive patients, undergone augmentation mastopexy between Januar

Modulation of the dissolution with ASP from a supersaturated solution on a bionic platform for gout pathology crystals.

The core to the treatment of gout is the elimination of pathologic crystal, monosodium urate monohydrate (MSUM). The primary treatment available is to gradually dissolve the "culprit crystals" by lowering the blood uric acid concentration with medications, which often takes a long time and in severe cases must still be treated surgically. Herein, we developed a dynamic bionic platform based on a hydrogel composite membrane (HCM) to screen the direct facilitated solubilization of MSUM crystals by small organic molecules in bionic saturated, or even supersaturated, solutions. The customized and

Revitalizing Recovery: Unveiling the Transformative Impact of Physiotherapy in Rehabilitating a Neglected Case of Shoulder Hemiarthroplasty.

The shoulder joint has a complex anatomy and biomechanics. It is a ball and socket joint made by the articulation surface of the humeral head (ball) and glenoidal fossa (socket) of the scapula. Shoulder arthroplasty is done when parts of the shoulder joint are severely affected and damaged beyond repair. The damaged parts are replaced with artificial parts. Prosthetic implants are typically made of metal or plastic material. Implants come in various sizes and shapes. There are three types of surgical arthroplasty: total shoulder arthroplasty, partial shoulder arthroplasty, and reverse arthropl

Minimally invasive balloon-assisted sinus floor elevation vs. conventional transcrestal procedure in terms of new bone formation in a split-mouth Goettingen minipig model.

PURPOSE: Currently, maxillary sinus floor (SF) elevation is based on off-the-shelf allogeneic, xenogeneic or synthetic bone augmentation materials (BAM) that are implanted via an open lateral sinus wall approach (OSFE). However, this invasive method is associated with postoperative complications caused by an inadequate blood supply of the alveolar ridge. Balloon-assisted procedures are minimal invasive alternatives with lower complication rates. The aim was to evaluate local new bone (NB) formation in the SF following the application of a particulate BAM (Easy graft) via two different SF eleva
