Cognitive Functioning in Vorinostat-Treated Pediatric and Young Adult Patients Over the First 180 Days After Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant.

PURPOSE: Cognitive and psychological difficulties could negatively interfere with treatment adherence and quality of life before and after hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). Methods to mitigate these changes may have positive effects on treatment success. Prior work has shown that histone deacetylases (HDAC) inhibitors such as vorinostat show promise in reducing the incidence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in allogenic transplant recipients and may mitigate some of the cognitive changes seen following transplant in adults. The current work presents a planned secondary analysis of

Assessment of Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients Suffering From Chronic Liver Disease in a Tertiary Care Hospital: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Chronic liver disease (CLD) significantly impairs health-related quality of life (HRQoL) due to its multifaceted impact on physical, psychological, and social well-being. Despite its prevalence in Pakistan, there is limited data on the specific HRQoL challenges faced by patients with CLD. This study aims to assess HRQoL in CLD patients using the Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire (CLDQ) and identify factors influencing their quality of life. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital over 6 months, including 331 adult patients diagnosed wi

Stressor-evoked heart rate, perceived physiological arousal, and anxiety symptoms in young adults.

BACKGROUND: Acute psychological stress is associated with increases in heart rate (HR) and state anxiety. Stressor-evoked perceived HR changes relate more strongly to state anxiety than actual HR reactivity. However, research has yet to examine these associations in the context of general anxiety symptoms. METHODS: Participants (N = 160) completed a resting baseline period followed by a standardized acute psychological stress task; HR was recorded throughout. After the stress task, participants rated their perceived stressor-evoked physiological arousal and anxiety intensity. Participants als

Momentary dynamics of intimate partner violence and posttraumatic stress symptoms among women: The influence of positive emotion dysregulation.

OBJECTIVE: Posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) among women experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) are a major public health burden. Yet, there is a need to better understand how IPV and PTSS relate over time. One understudied factor that may influence the IPV-PTSS association is dysregulation stemming from positive emotions. The objective of the current study was to clarify the temporal dynamics between IPV types (psychological, physical, sexual) and PTSS as well as the influence of positive emotion dysregulation. METHODS: Participants were 145 women recruited from the community (Mage

The role of financial difficulty on the health and well-being of adults with functional limitations that may require long-term services and supports.

Access to Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) is a big concern for many older adults and adults with disabilities who strive to live independently at home. People who have functional limitations that hinder completion of essential day-to-day activities are especially vulnerable to financial difficulty, which may further jeopardize their health and well-being. Using Pearlin's Stress Process Model, this study aims to understand how cumulative financial difficulties proliferate health and well-being among adults who are experiencing various types of functional limitations. This study used the

Exploring the mediating role of active coping in reducing perceived stress among men with advanced prostate cancer: a randomized controlled trial of cognitive behavioral stress management.

Cognitive-behavioral stress management (CBSM), which integrates active coping strategies, has been shown to enhance psychological adaptation in cancer survivors, resulting in reduced emotional distress and better quality of life. However, research on the impact of active coping in advanced cancer survivorship remains underexplored. This study examined whether active coping mediated the effects of CBSM on perceived stress among men with advanced prostate cancer (APC). APC survivors (N = 189) who had received androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) were randomized to a 10-week CBSM or a health promot

The Role of Videogame Micro-Transactions in the Relationship Between Motivations, Problem Gaming, and Problem Gambling.

Emerging research has highlighted potential associations between micro-transaction use and problematic videogame and gambling behaviour. An increasingly prominent theory highlights that self-determined motivations and basic psychological needs may play crucial roles in the development of problematic videogame and gambling behaviour. However, literature discussing the role that micro-transaction use has in this relationship is scarce. The present study examined the role of micro-transactions in the relationship between self-determined motivations for gaming and gambling and problematic behaviou
