A dermocosmetic regimen is able to mitigate skin sensitivity induced by a retinoid-based fixed combination treatment for acne: Results of a randomized clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Topical retinoids cause retinoid-induced skin discomfort (RISD) mainly during the first weeks of use leading to noncompliance and premature treatment discontinuation. A dermocosmetic (DC) may help to reduce treatment-related signs and symptoms and improve adherence. OBJECTIVES: To assess the benefit of a DC regimen compared to a routine skin care regimen (RC) by reducing RISD signs and symptoms induced by a retinoid/benzoyl peroxide fixed-drug combination in subjects with acne. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Double-blind, randomized, comparative study in subjects ≥16 years with mild to

Sleep-related rhythmic movement disorder in adults - A systematic review with a case report.

Sleep-related rhythmic movement disorder is characterised by stereotyped and repetitive rhythmic movements involving large muscle groups during sleep with frequencies between 0.5 and 2 Hz. Most of the published studies on sleep-related rhythmic movement disorder have focussed on children. Therefore, we performed a systematic review on this topic focussing on the adult population. The review is followed by a case report. The review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines. A total of seven manuscripts (n = 32 individ

Moralization of E-cigarette Use and Regulation: A Mixed-Method Computational Analysis of Opinion Polarization.

E-cigarette use, or vaping, is undergoing a process of moralization in which issues about vaping evolve from being morally neutral to having discernible moral implications. Using Moral Foundations Theory, this study compared the moral narratives underlying polarized views about e-cigarette use and regulation. We integrated computational and human strategies by conducting the Chow test on the time series data and classification, topic modeling, and Chi-square tests on posts (N = 2,669) from 26 pro-vaping and 19 anti-vaping Facebook Pages. The observation period (August 1, 2019 to March 5, 2020)

Combination of Photodynamic Therapy and Oral Antifungals for the Treatment of Onychomycosis.

Onychomycosis accounts for 50% of nail disorders, making it one of the most prevalent fungal diseases and a therapeutic challenge. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) could constitute a therapeutic alternative, owing to its good adherence, the low probability of resistance, the lack of interaction with antimicrobials, and its favorable adverse effect profile. This retrospective observational study included all patients with a microbiological diagnosis of onychomycosis treated with PDT at Miguel Servet University Hospital, Zaragoza (Spain), between January 2013 and June 2021. The protocol consisted of p

Orbital Hemorrhagic Necrosis, Globe Rupture, and Death From Intraorbital Injection of 1% Sodium Deoxycholate in a Murine Model.

PURPOSE: Deoxycholic acid (DCA) 1% is an injectable detergent indicated for submental fat reduction, although clinically it is being injected off-label for orbital fat prolapse. It is known to cause severe inflammation, local nerve dysfunction, and tissue necrosis, all of which could be catastrophic in the orbit and periocular region. This study evaluated the effects of periocular DCA on orbital and ocular adnexal tissues in a murine model. METHODS: Mice were treated via split-face intraorbital injections, subcutaneous injections, and topical cornea application with DCA versus phosphate-buffe

PURPOSE: Urethral fistula and dehiscence are common after hypospadias surgery. Preoperative androgens have been considered to reduce these complications although this consideration is not evidence-based. Dermatologists have reported the benefits of topical estrogens on skin healing. We investigated whether the preoperative use of topical promestriene could reduce healing complications in hypospadias surgery. Our primary objective was to demonstrate a reduction of healing complications with promestriene vs placebo. Impact on reoperations and other complications, clinical tolerance, bone growth,
