To determine the effects of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on tracheal cuff pressure, we have measured intracuff pressure (ICP) in 29 consecutive patients undergoing cardiac surgery with CPB. Premedication comprised hyoscine and, after induction of anaesthesia with diazepam and fentanyl, followed by vecuronium, the trachea was intubated using a Portex Profile tracheal tube. In some hypertensive haemodialysis (HD) patients, blood pressure rises further during ultrafiltration (UF). We investigated seven such patients, who were not responsive to hypotensive drugs, including converting enzyme inhibitors. All had marked cardiac dilatation, but most were non-oedematous. Intraocular pressure (IOP) increase soon after neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) treatments in the anterior segment has been reported. To evaluate this complication in a large sample of patients, we conducted a retrospective study of all Nd:YAG treatments during three years. Three hundred forty capsulotomies and 212 iridotomies were performed with the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. The existence of diurnal variation in CAPD remains controversial. We therefore attempted to delineate the blood-pressure (BP) pattern in CAPD patients by ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring (ABPM). This study identifies skin and nail complications other than pressure ulcers after spinal cord injury and correlate these complications to the level of injury. A prospective study was performed at the time of 679 annual spinal cord injury clinic visits from 1988 to 1991 at which time the skin and nails were examined for changes or other lesions. Clinical skin thickening and nail hypertrophy were the most frequent findings.
