This article reports the first randomized prospective multicenter evaluation of a bioabsorbable conduit for nerve repair. The study enrolled 98 subjects with 136 nerve transections in the hand and prospectively randomized the repair to two groups: standard repair, either end-to-end or with a nerve graft, or repair using a polyglycolic acid conduit. UNLABELLED: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection tend to be the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease (STD), and "high-risk" HPV types are correlated to intra-epithelial neoplasia, especially cervical cancer. UNLABELLED: The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence, and to describe the characteristics and medical care in patients with bleeding upper gastrointestinal ulcers in the general population.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A study was performed over six months in 1996 in 4 French geographical areas: Finistère, Gironde, Seine-Maritime, and the Somme (3 million people minimum 18 years). In order to investigate the role of sucralfate in active ulcerative colitis, 60 patients were randomized to receive either sucralfate enemas (20 g/100 ml) or methylprednisolone enemas (20 mg/100 ml). The enemas were administered twice daily for one week, and then once daily for three weeks. Clinical evaluation was documented at entry and at two weeks and four weeks. A prospective, nonconcurrent cohort analysis of 178 mifepristone/misoprostol and 199 suction curettage abortion subjects, ages > or = 18 years, with intrauterine pregnancies < or = 63 days estimated gestational age, was conducted to compare the outcomes of suction curettage abortion to those of medical abortion. The medical abortion subjects received 600 mg of mifeprisone orally, followed by 400 micrograms of oral misoprostol 2 days later. Surgical abortion subjects underwent electronic vacuum aspiration. OBJECTIVES: Congenital muscular torticollis is a common and controversial condition in infancy. We studied prospectively a group of infants with clearly defined sternomastoid tumor treated with a well-defined protocol.
STUDY DESIGN: A total of 510 cases of sternomastoid tumor in infants over a 10-year period were studied prospectively with a mean follow-up of 3.5 years and a range from 1. 5 years to 13 years.
