[PERSONALIZED APPROACH TO PATIENT WITH CHRONIC WOUND IN FAMILY MEDICINE].

It can be said that the occurrence and development of wounds, healing, delayed healing, and the notion of chronic wound are some of the basic characteristics of all living beings. When it comes to people, there are a number of processes that take place during wound healing, and even under ideal circumstances, they create a functionally less valuable skin tissue, along with structural and functional changes. Fibrosis in the form of hypertrophic scars and keloids, contractures and adhesions are examples of excessive healing. Microcirculation is significantly different from healthy skin circulati

Developmental Convergence Across Diverse Genetic Architectures in Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder of speech-motor planning and programming, associated with literacy, academic, and psychosocial difficulties. We performed whole-exome sequencing in 11 families comprising 21 affected and 15 unaffected individuals with phenotyping spanning speech, language, cognition, literacy, and motor function. We identified 60 prioritized variant observations representing 22 unique variants across 20 genes with family-based segregation analysis assessed in informative relatives; 5 arose de novo . Our cohort included multiple affected sibling

Characteristics of Affected Limb Pain and Associated Factors in Young Adult Survivors of Lower Limb Osteosarcoma in Japan.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to characterize affected-limb pain and its associated factors among adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors of lower extremity osteosarcoma in Japan. We hypothesized that both physical and psychosocial factors would be associated with pain, with an interaction between pain intensity and pain interference. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among osteosarcoma survivors aged 18-39 years who had completed treatment at least 2 years earlier. Self-administered questionnaires assessed pain intensity and interference, physical function, fatigue, sleep disturb

Adiposity and Cognitive Performance in Older Men and Women from the Study of Muscle, Mobility and Aging (SOMMA).

BACKGROUND: Aging is accompanied by changes in body composition and cognition. Although adiposity has been linked to metabolic dysfunction and dementia risk, associations with specific cognitive domains in later life remain unclear. METHODS: This cross-sectional study examined associations between adiposity and cognitive performance in 769 community-dwelling, healthy older adults (70-94 years) from the Study of Muscle, Mobility and Aging (SOMMA). Adiposity was assessed using anthropometric measures (body mass index, waist circumference) and MRI-derived regional fat volumes, including visceral

The role of sex and age in response to early post-myocardial infarction cardiac rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a key component of secondary prevention after myocardial infarction (MI). However, real-world effectiveness is limited by incomplete uptake and heterogeneity in participation, with persistent disparities affecting women and older adults. METHODS: This review aimed to synthesize evidence on the role of sex and age in CR participation after MI (initiation, adherence, completion), functional and patient-reported response to CR, and clinical outcomes, and to identify actionable program implications and priority research gaps. RESULTS: Women and older pa

Surgical Management of Blepharophimosis-Ptosis-Epicanthus Inversus Syndrome (BPES): A Comprehensive Review.

INTRODUCTION: Blepharophimosis-ptosis-epicanthus inversus syndrome (BPES) is a rare congenital eyelid disorder that leads to drooping eyelids, narrowing of the palpebral fissures, and a characteristic facial appearance. It is a genetic condition, typically inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, and is primarily caused by mutations in the FOXL2 gene, which is essential for eyelid development. Two types of BPES have been described: type II presents eyelid malformations and facial dysmorphism, while type I is additionally associated with premature ovarian insufficiency. If untreated, these f

Persistent elevation of plasma markers of cellular senescence after hip fracture: a pilot longitudinal study.

INTRODUCTION: Hip fractures may result from and contribute to accelerated biological aging. We aimed to evaluate the impact of hip fracture and its surgery on the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) index, a composite of peripheral protein markers where higher scores are thought to indicate greater levels of cellular senescence and accelerated aging. METHODS: We examined the SASP index in plasma over 12 weeks post-surgery and its prediction of long-term post-surgical functional outcomes. We included 60 older adults: 20 recruited immediately after hip fracture surgery, and 40 comp
