OBJECTIVE: Colonic transit studies are used to diagnose slow transit constipation (STC) and to evaluate segmental colonic transit before segmental or subtotal colectomy. The aim of the study was to compare a single X-ray radio-opaque marker method with a scintigraphic technique to assess total and segmental colonic transit in patients with STC.

Two types have been described: type I, caused by increased synthesis and release of thyroid hormone in individuals with underlying thyroid disease, can be treated with antithyroid drugs or radioiodine; and type II, a destructive thyroiditis responsive to corticoid therapy but not to antithyroid drugs. BACKGROUND: A 40-year-old man was referred to our clinic with recurrent paragangliomas. He had undergone resection of a paraganglioma superior to the right adrenal gland at 19 years of age, resection of two para-aortic paragangliomas at 39 years of age, and resection of a paraganglioma in the interatrial septum at 40 years. The patient's mother had died at age 39 years of metastases from a carotid body tumor.

Potential for a false-positive Meckel's scan is highlighted in this patient with intermittent, low-volume small bowel bleeding. Meckel's scan showed late appearance of focal activity mimicking a positive diverticulum finding. UNLABELLED: Currently available laboratory and imaging tests have limitations diagnosing and following patients with spinal infections. We evaluated 17 Technetium-99m labeled ciprofloxacin scintigraphy studies in 11 patients who had the diagnosis of a spinal infection based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria.
