Intraoperative landmarking errors and their avoidance in robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty using the VELYS system.

UNLABELLED: While robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) has been proven to achieve highly precise and reproducible radiographic results, its accuracy remains highly dependent on correct intraoperative landmark acquisition. This technical guide aims to provide practical guidance for intraoperative recognition of landmarking and gap balance assessment errors during rTKA using the image-free VELYSTM system. Based on the authors' clinical experience with this system, the most common pitfalls as well as their intraoperative recognition are highlighted. Special focus is set on pin placemen

Real-Time Markerless Tooth Detection Towards Dynamic Robot-Assisted Dental Implant Navigation.

Background/Objectives: Dynamic navigation and robot-assisted implant workflows depend on robust intraoral perception. Marker-based tracking introduces workflow complexity and is sensitive to occlusions, motivating markerless alternatives. This study evaluates whether a single-stage YOLO instance segmentation model (YOLO-seg) can provide a practical markerless perception layer for dental navigation, combining accurate per-tooth delineation with low, predictable inference latency. Methods: YOLO-seg was trained end to end on an intraoral RGB corpus of 400 training, 20 validation, and 100 testing

Soft Colloidal Robots: Magnetically Guided Liquid Crystal Torons for Targeted Micro-Cargo Delivery.

Quasiparticles in liquid crystals, such as torons and skyrmions, represent a new class of topologically protected solitonic excitations, offering a promising route toward soft microrobotics. Here we demonstrate that torons can be propelled by modulated electric fields and magnetically steered with full directional control, thus achieving programmable trajectories without net liquid flow. Within microfluidic architectures, we guide ensembles of torons through confined channels and realize targeted pick-up, transport, and release of colloidal cargo. By combining experiments and numerical simulat…

Genetic algorithm-based coverage path planning for autonomous aircraft cabin cleaning by reconfigurable robot.

Designing an optimal Coverage Path Planning (CPP) framework for autonomous aircraft cabin cleaning is a critical challenge due to the time-sensitive nature of aircraft turnaround operations. Conventional domestic cleaning robots struggle to adapt to the confined and irregular cabin layouts of commercial aircraft. To address this, the paper proposes a two-stage CPP approach utilizing the reconfigurable robot. In the first stage, the robot operates in its full-size configuration to efficiently clean open regions such as aisles and galleys, skipping hard-to-access seat rows to minimize total clea

Task-oriented visual SLAM: a comprehensive map classification framework for dynamic indoor robot manipulation.

Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (vSLAM) is fundamental to enabling robotic mobile manipulation-i.e., the seamless integration of navigation, perception, and dexterous interaction with objects in unstructured environments. Yet current vSLAM research largely lacks a principled, task-oriented framework for map classification, resulting in suboptimal map representations that hinder robustness and efficiency in dynamic indoor settings. To bridge this gap, we propose a purpose-driven taxonomy of vSLAM maps specifically designed for mobile manipulation tasks. This taxonomy comprises four

A uterine isthmocele, or cesarean scar defect, is a complication of cesarean delivery. This report presents a 36-year-old female patient with chronic pelvic pain and uterine bleeding years after a cesarean delivery. Initially, conservative treatment did not alleviate these symptoms. Upon failing conservative measures for symptom relief, she elected to undergo a definitive surgical repair. The patient underwent diagnostic hysteroscopy followed by robotic-assisted laparoscopic repair. Intraoperative evaluation revealed a 2-3 cm niche at the lower uterine segment, which was excised and reconstruc

"Biodegradable caterpillar inspired soft robotic systems for targeted therapeutic delivery with intelligent in vivo navigation".

Caterpillar-theorized soft robots are being developed as a new device for targeted drug delivery and less-invasive diagnostics. They replicate caterpillar movement through versatile, wave-like peristaltic motion and soft, adaptable structures that enable them to navigate narrow, curved, or irregular pathways in the body that conventional devices often cannot. Advances in fabrication, such as 3D printing and biodegradable magnetic composites, have enabled the development of soft robots that are both flexible and biocompatible and that can safely break down once their task is complete. Actuation
