BACKGROUND: Chronic arsenism with Bowen's disease is often seen in patients who drink water containing a high level of arsenic. Inorganic arsenic has demonstrated an increased risk of skin cancer.

An unusual case of a cutaneous collision tumor comprised of a squamous cell carcinoma and an apocrine carcinoma occurring in the auricle of an 82-year-old man is presented. Microscopic study confirmed 2 distinct tumors: a squamous cell carcinoma arising in the epidermis and an adjacent apocrine carcinoma. We discuss the diagnostic criteria and review pertinent recent literature. To our knowledge, this is the first English language report of such a collision tumor.

Three patients with Crohn's disease who developed the clinical features of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) are reported. To our knowledge this association has not been previously described. These cases illustrate the similarity between cutaneous Crohn's and ano-genital HS once chronic and established.

We report our experience of the surgical management of severe, extensive, medically intractable axillary Hidradenitis suppurativa in three male patients. Under general anaesthesia, all patients underwent large, deep and full excision of the disease prone areas, i. e. zones of apocrine sweat gland distribution and not only of the skin involved at the time of surgery, for the best possible prevention of recurrence. The association between hidradenitis suppurativa and joint involvement is well recognized. We describe a 63-year-old man with a severe HLA-B27 negative ankylosing spondylitis associated with hidradenitis suppurativa. We are not aware of any reports of such an association in the literature.

Vestibular stimulation is able to produce neurovegetative effects, which are disagreable and annoying. By an overflow of the vestibular stimulus to the neurovegetative centres changes in blood pressure and pulse rate are more frequently induced than are subjective neurovegetative symptoms as nausea, pallor etc. There is some correlation between both manifestations, but also some independency in occurrence.

Thirteen patients with both cold and cholinergic urticaria are reported. There was considerable variability, particularly in the cold urticaria which was of the common cold contact type in seven patients, of the generalized cold induced cholinergic type in two and in four patients the lesions induced by direct contact with ice were morphologically like cholinergic urticaria, but appeared despite prior application of an acetyl choline antagonist. The natural history, laboratory findings and the effects of therapy are discussed.

Neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis (NEH) is a recently described neutrophilic dermatosis associated with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and chemotherapy. This disorder is a distinct clinicopathologic entity separate from leukemid reactions and other neutrophilic dermatoses. We describe two cases in which plaques or nodules developed in the second week after initiation of induction chemotherapy for AML. A 22-year-old black man noted punctate macular hyperpigmentation of the distal dorsal extremities around the age of 5 years. The hyperpigmentation progressed proximally and became confluent, forming a reticulated pattern. Dermatopathology revealed increased basal melanization.
