BACKGROUND: Cinnamic aldehyde is a common fragrance additive in foods and various health and beauty products. Application of cinnamic aldehyde to the skin of humans can induce cutaneous vasodilatation characterized by erythema, urticaria, and stinging. Previous studies have suggested that prostaglandins (PGs) may mediate the vasodilation, but the causative PG has not been established. INTRODUCTION: Short-acting nifedipine (SA-NIF) is widely prescribed for acute hypertension (HTN) in children despite reports of ischemic complications in adults. We describe two children with neurologic events caused by rebound hypertension following SA-NIF use.

It has long been known that vascular reactivity is altered in preeclamptic patients compared with normal pregnant women. Primary pulmonary hypertension is a disease with a high mortality rate and for which there is no satisfactory medical treatment. The safety of long-term inhalation of nitric oxide (NO) as a treatment is described. A 9-year-old girl inhaled NO for 32 weeks, accompanied with oral administration of beraprost sodium.
