Malonaldehyde occurs as a natural metabolic byproduct of prostaglandin biosynthesis and as an end product of polyunsaturated lipid peroxidation. Using mice deficient for LFA-1, CD44, and ICAM-1, we examined the role of these adhesion molecules in NK1.1+TCR alpha beta+ (NKT) cell development. We reported previously that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibits the apoptotic death of hematopoietic cells that is induced by exposure to ionizing radiation (O.
