INTRODUCTION: Nowadays about 12 to 26% of European citizens suffer from atopic dermatitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and to identify risk factors of atopic dermatitis in general population of Lodz province' citizens.

Food and beverages may contain high amounts of histamine and thus may cause symptoms after ingestion. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of ingested histamine in atopic dermatitis. BACKGROUND: Perioral dermatitis is a relatively important and often enigmatic type of eczema.
METHODS: We describe a child with this disorder and review our experience and the literature.
RESULTS: Clinical features of perioral dermatitis in our patient and in many others described elsewhere show a high prevalence of perinasal and periocular involvement alongside perioral findings.
CONCLUSIONS: Perioral dermatitis is more suitably termed periorificial dermatitis.

Topical corticosteroids are the primary treatment for psoriasis. A patient with psoriasis being treated with topical fluocinonide for lesions on the extremities developed an erythematous facial eruption consistent with perioral dermatitis. When topical agents are applied, they often end up in unintended areas. The potential for drug-induced perioral dermatitis should be considered in psoriasis patients treated with potent topical corticosteroids.

Skin irritants may induce irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) in various ways but the end result remains the same: a clinical picture which in most cases is practically indistinguishable from allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). A treatment that works for ACD does not necessarily work for ICD. Management has to focus on preventive measures, education of people exposed to irritants and supportive topical treatment of varying nature depending on the clinical circumstances.

OBJECTIVE: Nickel is the most common cause of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Because nickel restriction is commonly imposed on many patients with the only earlobe ACD to nickel hypersensitivity, the aim of this study was to identify the role of occasional and extended oral nickel exposure in these patients.
DESIGN: This is a case-control study.
SUBJECTS: Thirty-four outpatients, previously diagnosed as monosensitized to nickel, suffering from earlobe dermatitis were enrolled; 11 of them showed active dermatitis. The control group consisted of six healthy (non-nickel-sensitive) subjects.

Paralysis of the orbicularis oculi muscle in patients with a facial nerve injury causes functional and cosmetic disabilities including inability to close the eyelid. This complication is often treated by implanting a gold weight in the upper eyelid, which, however, is not without side effects.
