CONTEXT: The musculocutaneous nerve is one of the terminal branches of the lateral fasciculus of the brachial plexus, and is responsible for innervation of the flexor musculature of the elbow and for skin sensitivity on the lateral surface of the forearm. Sixty-four patients (66 elbows) treated for refractory cubital tunnel syndrome had minimal medial epicondylectomy and in situ decompression to minimize the potential disadvantages of classic medial epicondylectomy. After a mean followup of 27 months results were excellent in 27 patients (44%), good in 23 patients (35%), fair in 10 patients (15%), and poor in four patients (6%). In a field study we evaluated 500 inline skaters and documented the risk for injury as well as active and passive prophylactic methods. Inline-skating carries high risk for injuries. A total of 41% of the 500 examined subjects got injured. 73% of the injuries attacked soft tissue, 22% of the subjects suffered in distorsions and 5% fractures. 24% of the 222 injured people required specific therapy. OBJECTIVE: To design a test of motor learning using arm movements in normal subjects and patients with cerebellar disease.
METHODS: Elbow angle was continuously displayed as a cursor (a dot) on a computer screen, and subjects made ballistic elbow flexion and extension movements to try to move the cursor between two targets on the screen. Twenty joints in 19 haemophiliacs were treated by radioactive synoviorthesis with gold (Au 198) to prevent recurrent haemarthrosis.
