Qualitative differences in perspective on children's quality of life between children with cerebral palsy and their parents.

BACKGROUND: Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most common childhood disabilities, impacting many areas of a child's life. Increasingly, quality of life (QOL) measures are used to capture holistic wellbeing of children with CP. However most validated QOL measures for children are based on adult perspective only, with limited focus on child perspective. Conceptual differences between children's and adults' definitions of QOL may reflect different underlying QOL models which contribute to measurement score divergence. This qualitative study investigated the conceptual meaning of QOL for children

COVID-19 may exacerbate the clinical, structural and psychological barriers to retention in care among women living with HIV in rural and peri-urban settings in Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Retention of pregnant and breastfeeding women and their infants in HIV care still remains low in Uganda. Recent literature has shown that the effects of COVID-19 mitigation measures may increase disease burden of common illnesses including HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria and other key public health outcomes such as maternal mortality. A research program was undertaken to locate disengaged HIV positive women on option B+ and supported them to reengage in care. A 1 year follow up done following the tracing revealed that some women still disengaged from care. We aimed to establish the barr

Motivational Enhancement Interventions to Increase Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Use in Sexual Minority Men Who Use Stimulants: Protocol for a Pilot Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial.

BACKGROUND: Although pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) could substantially mitigate HIV risk, sexual minority men who use stimulants commonly experience difficulties with engaging in PrEP clinical services. Motivational interviewing (MI) and contingency management (CM) reduce substance use and condomless anal sex (CAS) in this population, but these motivational enhancement interventions require modifications to promote engagement along the PrEP care continuum. OBJECTIVE: PrEP Readiness Interventions for Supporting Motivation (PRISM) is a pilot sequential multiple assignment randomized trial tes

The Value Opportunity from Artificial Intelligence in U.S. Health Care Spending.

Artificial intelligence (AI) offers the potential to improve productivity and reduce waste across the U.S. health care system. Quantifying achievable value from AI technologies can inform organizational strategies and national spending projections. This study aimed to estimate the annual run-rate net value achievable within 5 years through full adoption of AI use cases across major health care stakeholders and domains without compromising quality or access. This study applied observed implementation benchmarks and national expenditure data to 12 AI-enabled domains spanning five stakeholder gro

Male experiences of unintended pregnancy: characteristics and prevalence.

STUDY QUESTION: What are the characteristics and circumstances of pregnancies men report as unintended in France? SUMMARY ANSWER: Pregnancies reported as unintended were most prevalent among young men with insecure financial situations, less stable relationships and inconsistent use of contraception or false assumptions about their partner's use of contraception. Co-Designing a Care Coordination Intervention for People With Motor Neuron Disease: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Motor neuron disease (MND), also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is a rapidly progressive neurological condition that requires complex multidisciplinary care. Within the United Kingdom, specialist centers provide expert interventions, while day-to-day support often relies on local nonspecialist community health and social care professionals. This is due to the distance between people's homes and specialist centers, as well as the availability of specialist health and social care professionals. This can lead to fragmented communication and emotional, physical, and fina

Battling Alone on Multiple Fronts - How Gender Norms Affect the Soldiers' Wife as Caregiver in India.

OBJECTIVES: Women form the backbone of caregiving in palliative home care throughout the world. They put in more intense care for longer hours, perform more intimate tasks, and face more physical and mental strain, comorbidities, anxiety, and depression. However, gender norms that perceive caregiving as a natural part of femininity dismiss this as part of their duty toward their family, thus making their care work invisible, taken for granted, and devalued. This results in women bearing more burden with less support and no appreciation and suffering more negative mental and physical health out

Investigating eHealth Lifestyle Interventions for Vulnerable Pregnant Women: Scoping Review of Facilitators and Barriers.

BACKGROUND: The maintenance of a healthy lifestyle significantly influences pregnancy outcomes. Certain pregnant women are more at risk of engaging in unhealthy behaviors due to factors such as having a low socioeconomic position and low social capital. eHealth interventions tailored to pregnant women affected by these vulnerability factors can provide support and motivation for healthier choices. However, there is still a lack of insight into how interventions for this target group are best designed, used, and implemented and how vulnerable pregnant women are best reached. OBJECTIVE: This re

Using a Twitter Chat to Rapidly Identify Barriers and Policy Solutions for Metastatic Breast Cancer Care: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Real-time, rapid assessment of barriers to care experienced by patients can be used to inform relevant health care legislation. In recent years, online communities have become a source of support for patients as well as a vehicle for discussion and collaboration among patients, clinicians, advocates, and researchers. The Breast Cancer Social Media (#BCSM) community has hosted weekly Twitter chats since 2011. Topics vary each week, and chats draw a diverse group of participants. Partnering with the #BCSM community, we used Twitter to gather data on barriers to care for patients with

Factors Influencing Diagnostic Adherence Among High-Risk Populations for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in Eastern Rural China: An Analysis Based on the Health Belief Model and Implications for Primary Care Interventions.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive respiratory disorder imposing massive global mortality and socioeconomic burden, with disproportionately high prevalence and suboptimal diagnostic rates in rural China. This study aimed to identify factors associated with two-dimensional diagnostic adherence-operationalized as a cognitive/psychological dimension (knowledge of diagnostic guidelines, perceived value of early diagnosis, and psychological readiness) and a behavioral dimension (completion of standard diagnostic procedures)-among COPD high-risk popu

Efficacy of a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Based Online Self-Help Group for Depression and Suicide Ideation: Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Despite the high prevalence of depressive disorders, access to effective treatment remains limited due to financial, geographic, and social barriers. Online self-help groups offer a promising and scalable form of peer-based support beyond traditional clinical settings. Integrating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques such as cognitive restructuring and behavioral activation into self-help groups may enhance their effectiveness. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the efficacy of a cognitive behavioral therapy-based online self-help group (COS) that integrates structured CBT t
