BACKGROUND: Endotracheal intubation is required to keep the airway open when a patient undergoes surgery under general anaesthetic. Here we present a rare complication of endotracheal intubation.
CASE: A 70-year-old woman underwent repeat pulmonary vein isolation for atrial fibrillation under general anaesthetic. The I-gel is a supraglottic airway device which is commonly used in adult patients undergoing general anesthesia. In this study, we evaluated the speed of insertion, adequacy of ventilation, leak pressure, gastric tube insertion, and problems when using the I-gel in children. Strangulated hernia remains one of the most common emergencies encountered in general surgery.
