The 10-Min Holistic Self-Care for Patients with Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema: Pilot Randomized Controlled Study.

About 20% of patients with breast cancer are likely to develop breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) following an axillary clearance, and BCRL can be refractory or irreversible to treatment. The aim of this pilot randomized controlled study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a 10-min holistic self-care program for patients with BCRL in Japan. The intervention group (n = 22) practiced the BCRL self-care program including 1) modified Japanese Radio Taiso (Rajio Taiso, national calisthenics in Japan), 2) gentle arm exercises combined with deep breathing, 3) central lymphatic drainage, and 4)

Evidence- and Consensus-based European Guideline for Immunosuppressive Therapy After Pediatric Kidney Transplantation.

BackgroundThere is a lack of robust evidence regarding immunosuppressive therapy in children and adolescents after kidney transplantation (KTx), and as such, international practice is highly variable. Recent clinical practice recommendations advocating individualized immunosuppressive strategies that incorporate newer agents are often not implemented. This can potentially contribute to reduced patient and renal allograft survival.MethodsThe guideline was developed between January 1, 2024, and December 12, 2025, according to the Guidance Manual of the German Association of Scientific Medical So

A UK Delphi consensus study on the definition and management of advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (acSCC) encompasses locally advanced and metastatic disease; however, no standardized definition exists. Recognition and categorization, therefore, often rely on multidisciplinary judgment, which may lead to variations in diagnosis and management between centers. This study aimed to establish United Kingdom (UK) consensus on the definition and optimal management of acSCC. METHODS: A modified Delphi methodology was followed. Ten senior clinicians formed a steering group and identified four key topics for consensus statement development sur

TeloNet is born: why all specialities need to be aware of telomere biology disorders.

Telomere biology disorders (TBDs) and short telomere syndromes are difficult to diagnose, requiring a combination of clinical acumen, gene variant analysis and ideally, telomere length. Severe phenotypes include the ultra-rare dyskeratosis congenita and related early-onset syndromes. More commonly, TBDs can present in adulthood with single- or multi-system fibrotic disease, apoptotic bone marrow failure or malignancy. In the general population, shorter telomere lengths are associated with chronic inflammation, fibrotic disorders, cardiovascular disease, malignancy and disorders of ageing. Diag

Overcoming the barriers in the screening, diagnosis, and follow-up of patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

In 2024, a comprehensive framework for the screening, diagnosis, and management of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) was incorporated in the EASL-EASD-EASO clinical practice guidelines. However, physicians often face barriers applying these recommendations in routine clinical care, especially in the Southeastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (SEEMEA) region. As a multidisciplinary group of physicians involved in MASLD and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) management, our objective is to provide a practice-oriented roadmap including practic

Barriers and facilitators to implementing the European code of cancer practice in a rural and coastal setting: a qualitative study.

PURPOSE: The European Code of Cancer Practice (ECCP) is a patient-centred framework for good clinical cancer practice, to improve outcomes for all of Europe's patients [1]. Given challenges with applications to rural regions, the study aimed to explore the barriers and facilitators to implementing the ECCP in a rural, coastal, and urban context. METHODS: We conducted semi-structured individual and group interviews with nine acute cancer professionals; nine non-clinical professionals; and four people with lived experience of cancer. Interviews were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis, u

Quantification of progressive pulmonary fibrosis by visual scoring of HRCT images: recommendations from Italian chest radiology experts.

Interstitial lung diseases (ILD) constitute a large and heterogeneous group of disorders affecting the lung parenchyma. While idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), the most common type of ILD, is the prototype of progressive fibrosis, other forms, collectively termed "progressive pulmonary fibrosis" (PPF), can show a similar clinical course. Detecting chronic fibrosing ILD progression necessitates radiological evidence using high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT), which determines eligibility for treatment. However, assessing the extent of fibrosis and progression on HRCT images is difficul

A greater nurse and midwife density protects against infant mortality globally.

PURPOSE: As the largest profession within the health care workforce, nurses and midwives play a critical role in the health and wellness of families especially children and infants. This study suggests those countries with higher nurse and midwife densities (NMD) had lower infant mortality rates (IMR). DESIGN AND METHODS: With affluence, low birthweight and urbanization incorporated as potential confounders, this ecological study analyzed the correlations between NMD and IMR with scatterplots, Pearson r correlation, partial correlation and multiple linear regression models.
