INTRODUCTION: We assessed whether QT interval was still different between male and female patients with primary aldosteronism. We also assessed the gender difference in the relation between serum potassium level and QT interval.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study population consisted of 80 patients with newly diagnosed primary aldosteronism. There were 39 male and 41 female patients.

This review focuses on the endocannabinoid system as a crucial player during critical periods of brain development, and how its disturbance either by early life stressful events or cannabis consumption may lead to important neuropsychiatric signs and symptoms. First we discuss the advantages and limitations of animal models within the framework of neuropsychiatric research and the crucial role of genetic and environmental factors for the establishment of vulnerable phenotypes. We describe a case of sex reassignment surgery and the subsequent development of lupus erythematosus tumidus (LET). LET is characterized clinically by erythematous, succulent, edematous, nonscarring plaques in sun-exposed areas. Results of histological examination show perivascular and periadnexal lymphocytic infiltration and interstitial mucin deposition. This report emphasizes that environmental triggers, including prolonged exposure to significant doses of estrogens as part of sex reassignment surgery, may lead to the development of lupus in a nonpredisposed individual.
