In glucocorticoid-remediable aldosteronism (GRA), there is a large interfamily variation of phenotype. We report three subjects with GRA in a single family (parents, two brothers and two sisters), of whom only one (proband) displayed classical features of the mineralocorticoid excess. We examined circadian blood pressure (BP) variation (expressed as a relative night-time BP decline) in subjects with primary aldosteronism (78 patients), pheochromocytoma (n=45) and Cushing's syndrome (n=18). From 1957 to 1994, 332 patients underwent surgical treatment for aldosteronoma at Ruijin Hospital. Among them, 11 patients (3.9%) were diagnosed as having multiple aldosteronoma. We ususally used the same method to make the qualitative diagnosis for both single and multiple aldosteronoma. Plasma from 37 essential hypertensive patients, from 11 subjects with primary aldosteronism and from 23 normotensive subjects was tested for ouabain-like activity.
