Predicting Medication Adherence in Schizophrenia: The Role of Reminiscence Functions and the Moderating Effect of Metacognitive Beliefs on the Effect of Insight on Medication Adherence.

In the context of schizophrenia, it has been previously held that the more insight a patient has about their condition, the more likely they are to adhere to their medication regimen more closely. However, insight alone may not be enough. Metacognitive beliefs (ideas and assumptions about their own cognitive processes, such as thinking, memory, and attention) serve as a critical factor impacting this relationship, given their association with both improved medication adherence and increased insight. Another key component of insight is one's ability to reminisce. However, no existing studies ha

Feasibility and usability of a holistic assessment questionnaire to assess cancer-related fatigue after breast cancer.

PURPOSE: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a major burden for cancer survivors, limiting their functioning in society. Due to the complexity of CRF, a holistic perspective is required to provide treatment advice that aligns with the experience and perpetuating factors of CRF. A holistic assessment of CRF (HA-CRF) questionnaire was developed previously. This study evaluates the feasibility and usability of the HA-CRF questionnaire in daily life to gain insight into the barriers and facilitators for successful implementation into clinical practice. METHODS: The HA-CRF questionnaire was implemente

Nurse case management to improve multidrug-resistant TB: a cluster-randomised trial.

BACKGROUND: Nurse case management (NCM) models have improved outcomes in chronic disease and HIV, but evidence in multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) is limited. We therefore evaluated whether NCM could improve MDR-TB outcomes. METHODS: This pragmatic, cluster-randomised trial was conducted at 10 district hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape, South Africa. RESULTS: Between 13 November 2014 and 5 September 2019, 2,844 were enrolled. A total of 2,134 were analysed (1,093 NCM, 1,041 usual care). Among 1,236 men (57.9%) and 898 women (42.1%), mean age was 37.4 years (standard deviation 12.2).

[Expert consensus on the diagnosis and whole-course management of early-onset colorectal cancer in China (2026 version)].

The incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) has been rising globally in recent years, with an especially rapid increase in disease burden in China. Compared with late-onset colorectal cancer, EOCRC is more often diagnosed following symptomatic presentation, with greater diagnostic delay and more aggressive biological behavior. Patients are typically at critical life stages regarding career development and family building, and have urgent needs for fertility and sexual function preservation, and long-term quality of life. However, current domestic and international guidelines mostly

Spatial analysis of mortality due to congenital syphilis in Brazil from 2008 to 2022.

The objective of this study is to analyze spatial distribution of mortality due to congenital syphilis in Brazil from 2008 to 2022. This is an ecological study that considered congenital syphilis deaths reported in all Brazilian municipalities, from 2008 to 2022, available in the Brazilian government's information systems. We built a thematic map to describe the distribution of congenital syphilis mortality in the country and, subsequently, applied the Local Index Spatial Analysis to identify possible spatial clusters. Finally, we used the Ordinary Least Squares and Geographically Weighted Reg

A Meta-Analysis on the Effect of Depression on Adherence to Medication for Opioid Use Disorder.

Objective: U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) effectively reduce opioid cravings, use, relapse, and overdose. However, adherence to MOUD is a significant challenge. Depression relates to poorer adherence across several medical conditions and may be a prime factor relating to poor MOUD adherence. The goal of this meta-analysis is to quantify the relationship between depression and MOUD adherence and to identify moderators of this association. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using PsycINFO, PubMed, Embase, and Cumulat

Maternal milk cell components are uptaken by infant liver macrophages via extracellular vesicle mediated transport.

Milk is a multifaceted biofluid that is essential for infant nutrition and development, yet its cellular and bioactive components, particularly maternal milk cells, remain understudied. Early research on milk cells indicated that they cross the infant's intestinal barrier and accumulate within systemic organs. However, due to the absence of modern analytical techniques, these studies were limited in scope and mechanistic analysis. To overcome this knowledge gap, we have investigated the transintestinal transport of milk cells and components in pups over a 21-day period. Studies employed a mT/m

More empathy for others, more hurt for oneself? Empathy for pain is related to poor mental health and negative emotion regulation.

BACKGROUND: Empathy for pain refers to a simulation of pain experiences evoked when seeing others in pain. Empathy for pain (vicarious pain) responders make up 27% of the healthy population, and are divided into two subsets: Sensory/Localized responders who feel localized physical pain and Affective/General responders who experience diffuse emotional pain. Empathy for pain is linked to pro-social behavior but can increase mental health symptoms. METHODS: Multivariate analysis of variance and latent variable mediation model were used to investigate the relationship between empathy for pain, me

Perspectives on Periplacement Management of Tunneled Pleural Catheters: A National Survey of Interventional Pulmonologists.

BACKGROUND: Indwelling tunneled pleural catheters (IPC) have transformed the management of malignant pleural effusions, offering outpatient placement and symptom relief without the need for repeated invasive procedures. Despite their widespread adoption and expansion to nonmalignant effusion management, practice patterns widely vary, and very little is described in the literature regarding patient education practices. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was distributed via the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP). The survey assessed demographics, procedur

What About Love? A Review of Interventions for Patients With Heart Disease and Their Intimate Partners: Recommendations for Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Social relationships, particularly the quality of intimate partnerships, play a significant role in cardiovascular outcomes and recovery. While most cardiac care focuses on individual patients, couples-based approaches may offer additional benefits to support behavior change and emotional adjustment. However, their effectiveness remains unclear. This review evaluates the effectiveness of couples-based interventions on modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, cardiac outcomes, mental health, and relationship quality (RQ) in adults with diagnosed heart disease and their partners. We reviewed rand
