In this study, we evaluated the immune response of patients suffering from cutaneous leishmaniasis treated with two distinct protocols. We studied 37 intradiploic epidermoid cysts, reviewing typical and atypical radiological features and the differential diagnosis. The most common clinical feature was a long standing lump in the scalp, occurring in 25 patients (67.7%). Plain films were the most cost-effective radiological technique in diagnosis. A patient had severe hydrocephalus and diffuse leptomeningeal enhancement on MR which mimicked leptomeningeal spread of a primary brain tumor. The leptomeningeal enhancement resolved completely after decompression of the hydrocephalus. Data suggest that the leptomeningeal enhancement is caused by vascular stasis induced by the hydrocephalus.

In a symptom-oriented study 17 patients suffering from chronic auditory hallucinations were investigated by means of 99mTc-HMPAO-SPECT and compared with healthy controls. The results confirm the relative frontal hypoactivity in junction with a relative hyperactivity in the basal ganglia and mesial limbic structures in both hemispheres found in a previous pilot study in auditorily hallucinating patients. Our results should fortify the symptom-oriented approach in psychiatric research.
