The effect of a structured medication review on quality of life in Parkinson's disease: The study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) is symptomatic and frequently consists of complicated medication regimes. This negatively influences therapy adherence, resulting in lower benefit of treatment, drug related problems and decreased quality of life (QoL). A potential effective intervention strategy is a structured medication review, executed by community pharmacists. However, little is known about the effects on clinical endpoints like QoL, as well as on feasibility and cost-effectiveness in PD patients. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effect of a structured medication review on QoL i

Evaluation of a Portable Haemoglobin Metre Performance in Children with Sickle Cell Disease and Implications for Healthcare in Resource-poor Settings.

BACKGROUND: Sub-Saharan Africa has the largest burden and worst outcome of sickle cell disease (SCD). This gloomy outlook has been attributed to the lack of use of simple and cost-effective measures for diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Although haematology analysers are the gold standard for accurate measurement of haemoglobin (Hb) concentration, they are often out of reach of most health facilities in resource-poor settings, thus creating a care gap. We conducted this study to examine the agreement between a point-of-care device and haematology analyser for determining the Hb concentra

Insights from a randomized controlled trial on a digital lifestyle intervention in non-small cell lung cancer survivors following inpatient rehabilitation.

INTRODUCTION: Rehabilitation can improve health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) survivors, but they lack structured aftercare to maintain these gains at home. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a co-created digital lifestyle intervention on HRQoL and health-related outcomes in NSCLC survivors following inpatient rehabilitation, alongside a comprehensive process evaluation. METHODS: This multicenter randomized controlled trial allocated participants (1:1 ratio) to a 12-week self-managed digital lifestyle intervention delivered via a mobile app

The views and experiences of nurses and midwives in the provision and management of provider-initiated HIV testing and counseling: a systematic review of qualitative evidence.

BACKGROUND: Global progress towards HIV prevention and care is contingent upon increasing the number of those aware of their status through HIV testing. Provider-initiated HIV testing and counseling is recommended globally as a strategy to enhance uptake of HIV testing and is primarily conducted by nurses and midwives. Research shows that provider-initiated HIV testing and counseling implementation is sub-optimal. The reasons for this are unclear. OBJECTIVES: The review aimed to explore nurses' and midwives' views and experiences of the provision and management of provider-initiated HIV testi

Sarcopenia and health-related quality of life: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

The decrease of physical abilities and functional decline that can be caused by musculoskeletal conditions such as sarcopenia, can lead to higher levels of dependency and disability. Therefore, it may influence patient reported outcome measures (PROM), such as the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to provide a comprehensive overview of the relationship between sarcopenia and HRQoL. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) were followed throughout the whole process of this work. A protocol was pr

In-silico evaluation of aging-related interventions using omics data and predictive modeling.

A major challenge in aging research is identifying interventions that can improve lifespan and health and minimize toxicity. Clinical studies cannot usually consider decades-long follow-up periods, and therefore, in-silico evaluations using omics-based surrogate biomarkers are emerging as key tools. However, many current approaches train predictive models on observational data, rather than on intervention data, which can lead to biased conclusions. Yet, the first classifiers for lifespan extension by compounds are now available, learned on intervention data. Here, we review evaluation methodol

Characterization of upper limb use in health care workers during regular shifts: A quantitative approach based on wrist-worn accelerometers.

Despite the high prevalence of upper limb (UL) work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSD) among health care workers (HCWs), little is known about their relationship with exposure to biomechanical risk factors. This study aimed to assess UL activity features under actual working conditions using two wrist-worn accelerometers. Accelerometric data were processed to obtain duration, intensity, and asymmetry of UL use in 32 HCWs during the execution of commonly performed tasks (e.g., patient hygiene, transfer, and meal distribution) within a regular shift. The results show that such tasks are c

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Imaging Spectrum in Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults.

In children, adolescents, and young adults (CAYA), non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is characterized by various age-related dissimilarities in tumor aggressiveness, prevailing pathologic subtypes, and imaging features, as well as potentially different treatment outcomes. Understanding the imaging spectrum of NHL in CAYA with particular attention to children and adolescents is critical for radiologists to support the clinical decision making by the treating physicians and other health care practitioners. The authors discuss the currently performed imaging modalities including radiography, US, CT, MRI

Antibiotics versus appendectomy in the management of acute appendicitis: a review of the current evidence.

BACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis remains the most common cause of the acute abdomen in young adults, and the mainstay of treatment in most centres is an appendectomy. However, treatment for other intra-abdominal inflammatory processes, such as diverticulitis, consists initially of conservative management with antibiotics. The aim of this study was to determine the role of antibiotics in the management of acute appendicitis and to assess if appendectomy remains the gold standard of care. METHODS: A literature search using MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library identified studies published between 1999

Patient Journey Mapping in Mental Disorders: A Scoping Review.

Patient journey mapping is a visualisation tool increasingly adopted in healthcare to optimise care processes. This scoping review mapped international evidence on its application to mental disorders. Following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and PRISMA-ScR reporting guidelines, this review searched seven databases from inception to 1 December 2025. Two reviewers independently screened records, assessed full texts and extracted data, with disagreements resolved through discussion or consultation with a third reviewer. Thematic synthesis was conducted collectively by the research team.

Measuring results of humanitarian action: adapting public health indicators to different contexts.

Humanitarian crises represent a significant public health risk factor for affected populations exacerbating mortality, morbidity, disabilities, and reducing access to and quality of health care. Reliable and timely information on the health status of and services provided to crisis-affected populations is crucial to establish public health priorities, mobilize funds, and monitor the performance of humanitarian action. Numerous efforts have contributed to standardizing and presenting timely public health information in humanitarian settings over the last two decades. While the prominence of pro

Right-Sizing Testing Before Elective Surgery for Patients With Low Risk.

IMPORTANCE: Guidelines recommend against testing before low-risk surgery in healthy patients because it offers no benefit and may cause harm. However, testing remains prevalent, highlighting the need for a deimplementation strategy that can be broadly applied across health care settings. OBJECTIVE: To assess the feasibility of a multifaceted, multicomponent deimplementation strategy entitled Right-Sizing Testing Before Elective Surgery (RITE-Size), hypothesizing it would be feasible to execute with 80% of milestones met on time.
