We provide an overview of where the field currently stands when it comes to having evidence-based methods and instruments available for use in assessing anxiety and its disorders in children and adolescents. Methods covered include diagnostic interview schedules, rating scales, observations, and self-monitoring forms. We also discuss the main purposes or goals of assessment and indicate which methods and instruments have the most evidence for accomplishing these goals. We also focus on several specific issues that need continued research attention for the field to move forward toward an eviden

Eight patients with combat-induced chronic posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) receiving long-term alprazolam therapy for anxiety or depression (maximum dose of 2-9 mg/day for 1-5 years) had alprazolam therapy withdrawn. Most of the patients underwent gradual medication withdrawal. All patients had a prior history of alcohol abuse or benzodiazepine dependence. During withdrawal, all patients had severe reactions including anxiety, sleep disturbance, rage reactions, hyperalertness, increased nightmares, and intrusive thoughts; and 6 of the 8 patients had homicidal ideation. As a result of this

Events linked to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) influence psychological and physical health through the generation, exacerbation, and maintenance of symptoms such as anxiety, hyperarousal, and avoidance. Depending upon circumstance, traumatic events may also contribute to the onset of tinnitus, post-traumatic headache, and memory problems. PTSD should be considered a psychological injury, andwhile tinnitus is a symptom, its onset and sound quality may be connected in memory to the injury, thereby evincingthe capacity to exacerbate the trauma's effects. The myriad attributes, psychologic

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic injury is the leading cause of pediatric mortality and morbidity in the United States. While behavioral impairments of children after traumatic brain injury (TBI) have been described, outcomes following traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) and multi-trauma (MT) are less known. We aimed to address the prevalence of behavioral and neuropsychiatric disorders in pediatric and adolescent trauma patients.
METHODS: We performed a single-center retrospective review of patients ≤18 years of age admitted to inpatient rehabilitation after traumatic injury from January 2018-December

BACKGROUND: Trauma exposure has been associated with the development of psychotic disorders in adolescence and young adulthood. Trauma can compromise the sense of agency, a predictor of psychosis. Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after trauma may also imply significant cognitive impairments that predispose young people to psychotic-like experiences (PLEs). This study investigates whether the two senses of agency subtypes - positive and negative agency, and PTSD symptoms mediated PLEs in youths after trauma.
AIMS: The study aimed to explore the mediation of the sense of agency

The rate of increase at which women are incarcerated in the United States dramatically outpaces the rate of increase among men. Women frequently enter incarceration after facing extensive trauma and often suffer the consequences of unacknowledged and undertreated post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Yet, little is known regarding the types of traumas that women who are incarcerated (WI) experience, the types/magnitude of traumatic stress symptoms endured, or attitudes towards intervention. We sought to understand trauma experiences of WI (particularly those related to violent victimization),

Multiple losses in wartime, both death-related and non-death-related, require multidimensional assessment to encompass both the event and the multiple levels of interpersonal and societal involvements within which individuals are embedded. We present a case study in which the traumatic death of a family member is a central, but not exclusive, element in understanding the bereavement process. The traumatic death originated with the events of October 7, 2023 and the ensuing war which were part of an overwhelming surge of traumatic losses in Israel. The bereaved's response met the criteria for Po

BACKGROUND: Although both psychological resilience and social support are widely believed to be effective in alleviating post-traumatic psychiatric symptoms in individuals with traumatic events, there has been a lack of comparative analysis of their intervention effects on different post-traumatic psychiatric symptoms. Furthermore, previous studies have mostly failed to control for potential confounding effects caused by different traumatic events.
AIMS: We used the novel network analysis approach to examine the differential moderating effects of psychological resilience and social support on

BACKGROUND: Digital tools may support early phases of trauma therapy for adolescents, yet little is known about how an app-based stabilization phase functions in routine child and adolescent psychiatry clinics. To our knowledge, no previous study has qualitatively examined a compassion-integrated, app-based stabilization phase delivered before trauma processing within trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) for adolescents.
OBJECTIVE: This formative qualitative pretrial study explored the acceptability, feasibility, and contextual fit of an app-based stabilization phase within bl

Public health emergencies place substantial psychological demands on healthcare and public health emergency response workforces. While preparedness frameworks traditionally emphasize surveillance systems, infrastructure, and operational capacity, workforce mental health is increasingly recognized as an important determinant of sustainable emergency response. This Perspective examines how workforce mental health functions as an underlying determinant of health security capacity. Evidence from contemporary literature indicates that emergency responders experience substantial burdens of psycholog

BACKGROUND: Suicidal ideation increases the risk of suicidal behavior and death in adolescents, and it is associated with adverse mental health outcomes. Using a multidimensional approach, we investigated some relevant suicidal ideation-correlated variables underlying a general psychopathology factor explaining suicidal ideation in adolescents. METHODS: Through an online survey, we assessed depressive, anxiety and post-traumatic stress symptoms, psychotic experiences, and feelings of defeat/entrapment in a sample of 1,570 adolescents from the general population (M = 15.52; SD = 1.29; female =

OBJECTIVES: Improving treatment outcomes for comorbid chronic pain and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) requires a better understanding of how these conditions interact.
METHODS: This study examined the co-occurrence and interrelations of PTSD symptoms and chronic pain in a trauma-exposed sample recruited from the Pain Rehabilitation Unit at Skåne University Hospital, Sweden. Using a network analysis approach, data from 136 adults with chronic pain and traumatic exposure were analyzed. All DSM-5 PTSD symptoms were assessed at both item and cluster levels, alongside a comprehensive evaluat
