Medication-induced pulmonary toxicity is a rare adverse event that may occur with many chemotherapeutic agents, including etoposide. This agent has been found to cause various toxicities, including anaphylaxis, angioedema, hypotension, and pneumonitis. Etoposide is used in chemotherapy regimens for multiple cancers, including germ-cell tumors. Proper diagnosis of chemotherapy-induced pulmonary toxicity is imperative and should be considered in patients who develop acute respiratory failure during or after chemotherapy. Here, we discuss an unexpected case of etoposide-induced pneumonitis after

Extragonadal germ cell tumor may present with gross hematuria, resultant from the primary tumor, direct invasion, or metastatic involvement. This report describes gross hematuria occurring as a long-term sequela of EGGCT management. The patient in question had a documented history of an EGGCT, underwent chemotherapy with RPLND and resection of the IVC. Six years post-surgery, the patient exhibited gross hematuria. CT imaging demonstrated dilation of the vesical venous plexus with cystoscopic examination confirming prominent submucosal veins near the bladder neck. Gross hematuria is attributed

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a prevalent cause of heart failure. We generated induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from a DCM patient carrying a mutation in the SCN5A gene, with his healthy father serving as a control. Notably, we employed CRISPR-Cas9 to rectify the mutation in the patient's iPSC line. The resulting iPSC lines expressed pluripotency markers, underwent differentiation into all three embryonic germ layers, maintained a normal karyotype, and lacked reprogramming viral vectors. These iPSC lines serve as a model for delving into the mechanisms of DCM and hold promise for t

This study presents a rare case of pure choriocarcinoma (PCC) with metastasis to the gastrointestinal tract in a 52-year-old male with a history of mixed germ cell tumor in remission. Despite negative oncology surveillance imaging, serum marker monitoring, and a recent colonoscopy, the patient presented with new-onset melena and dysphagia, leading to further diagnostic evaluation. Endoscopic examination revealed an ulcerated duodenal mass, and a computer tomography (CT)-guided liver biopsy confirmed metastatic PCC. This case highlights the aggressive nature of PCC and the importance of conside

Down syndrome (DS) is caused by trisomy of Homo sapiens chromosome 21 (HSA21) and is by far the most common chromosomal disorder accompanied by neurodevelopmental disorders and congenital heart disease. Here, we generated two induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from two patients with DS. These two lines exhibited normal morphology, trisomy 21 karyotype, pluripotency and differentiation capability into derivatives of three germ layers. The patient-specific iPSC lines arean invaluable resource in research to model DS-related cellular and molecular pathologies and test possible therapeutic

Epignathus is an extremely rare teratoma found in the oral cavity or oropharyngeal region of newborns, whose pathogenesis is poorly understood. We describe a giant epignathus arising from the oropharynx in a newborn. The giant tumor completely obstructed the airway of the newborn resulting in death. Histological and radiological examination of the tumor reveals the presence of a remarkably well-developed skeleton of the head and neck. A row of teeth, the axis and atlas, thyroid and salivary glands, trachea, and cerebral tissue are all detected within the tumor. These findings suggest that the

Bleomycin, an antitumour antibiotic, is an essential part of treatment for multiple curable cancers, most commonly Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL) and germ cell tumours. Major limitation of its use is lung toxicity. Early diagnosis and treatment of bleomycin lung toxicity (BLT) is crucial, as the changes are reversible during early inflammatory phase only. 18F Flourodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET-CT can predict BLT early in the course of illness. It is important to pay attention to lung parenchymal uptake on interim and end of treatment scans, as this may predict lung toxicity even in the absence of morphologic

Cytokine receptor like factor 1 (CRLF1) is the gene implicated, when mutated, in Crisponi syndrome/cold-induced sweating syndrome type 1 (CS/CISS1). Here, we report the establishment of induced pluripotent stem cell lines (iPSCs) from fibroblasts of a Turkish CS/CISS1 individual with a homozygous variant in CRLF1 (c.708_709delinsT; p.[Pro238Argfs*6]). This variant is the most frequent variant associated to CS/CISS1 in the Turkish population. These patient derived iPSC lines show all pluripotency markers, a normal karyotype and the ability to differentiate into the three germ layers.

Teratomas are the most common germ cell tumors of childhood. Head and neck teratomas, however, account for less than five percent of all teratomas. Considered rare at an incidence of 1 in 20,000 to 40,000 live births, they may occur in the cervical region, nasopharynx, brain, orbit, or oropharynx. Teratoma presenting as an isolated intranasal mass is extremely rare. In this report, we describe a case of a mature teratoma arising from the roof of the nasal cavity presenting as an isolated intranasal mass, the first of its kind from our literature review. The tumor was resected endoscopically wi

A three-month-old female infant presented with abdominal distention for 2 months. A large palpable mass in right upper quadrant was noted on physical exam. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a large heterogeneous mass with multiple cystic components. Mass was surgically excised and pathology was consistent with mature adrenal teratoma. Teratoma is a germ cell tumor mainly found in gonadal tissues. Occurrence of adrenal gland teratoma in children is very rare with less than 10 pediatric case reports in English literature. We present a rare case of primary adrenal tumor in an infant and a review of t

Spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by the expansion of CAG repeats in the Androgen Receptor gene (AR). We report the generation of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from two SBMA patients and their healthy siblings. The SBMA and healthy iPSC lines retain the number of AR CAG repeats, express pluripotency markers and are able to differentiate into the three germ layers. The iPSC lines are also free of Sendai virus transgenes and have normal karyotypes. The SBMA iPSC lines with their sibling-matched controls would serve as useful tools to stu

Synchronous intracranial germ cell tumor in the pineal and suprasellar region is rare. They represent only 5-10% of all intracranial germinomas. They are also known by the entity "double midline atypical teratoma" and are common in the second decade of life. We report a case of an 11-year-old girl having dual midline intracranial lesions with obstructive hydrocephalus treated by ventriculo-peritoneal shunt. Diagnosis of germinoma was made on the basis of imaging and elevated beta-human chorionic gonadotropin in cerebrospinal fluid. Radiotherapy was instituted, which resulted in the total disap

Growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) is a rare clinical entity, which presents with enlarging teratomas masses of the retroperitoneum or other locations, occurring during or after systemic chemotherapy for the treatment of nonseminomatous germ cell of the testis (NSGCT), with normalised tumour markers. Awareness of this syndrome is necessary in order to prevent unnecessary chemotherapy and allow optimal management. Prognosis is excellent after the excision of these tumors, but surgery has to be as complete as possible. Surgical resection of bulky GTS lesions is technically challenging; intraoperati

Abstract Laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) has been shown to be safe and effective in appropriately selected pediatric and adolescent patients with paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) and testicular germ-cell tumors (T-GCT). While the use of robot-assisted laparoscopy has expanded rapidly in many areas, there are very limited reports of its use with RPLND. We present two cases of adolescents who were treated using robot-assisted laparoscopic RPLND (R-RPLND)-one with paratesticular RMS (PT-RMS) and one with testicular GCT (T-GCT)-with good outcomes and low morbidity.

OBJECTIVES: Atypical lymphatic spread of germ cell tumors to inguinal lymph nodes has been reported mostly related to prior surgical involvement of the inguinoscrotal region, as in orchiopexy.
METHODS: A patient with cryptorchidism and failed orchiopexy in his childhood was diagnosed with a testicular neoplasm. Inguinal orchiectomy was performed.
RESULTS: Pathological analysis showed classical seminoma spreading into a subcutaneous adjacent lymph node. Further metastatic disease was not found. Patient was treated with adjuvant chemotherapy.
CONCLUSIONS: We emphasize the need for accurate st

Intrapericardial teratoma is a rare and often fatal germ-cell tumor of neonates. It is usually histologically benign but may cause death in utero by hydrops fetalis or by pericardial tamponade in the early days of life. The etiology of these tumors is uncertain, but resection appears to be curative. However, these tumours present a challenge in terms of prenatal management. The prevention or adequate management of hydrops fetalis is essential for the gestation to proceed to term, at which point it can be managed successfully with surgical resection. We present a case of intrapericardial terato

The effect of mutation for gene Merlin on chromosome disjunction in Drosophila during meiosis was genetically studied. Chromosome nondisjunction was not registered in females heterozygous for this mutation and containing structurally normal X chromosomes. In cases when these females additionally contained inversion in one of chromosomes X, a tendency toward the appearance of nondisjunction events was observed in individuals containing mutation in the heterozygote. The genetic construct was obtained allowing the overexpression of protein corresponding to a sterile allele Mer3 in the germ cell l

Most patients with intracranial germinomas will be cured and become long-term survivors. Physicians caring for these patients should recognize that these patients may be at risk for disease-related and/or treatment-related late sequelae. We report the case of a 27-year-old man who developed testicular seminoma 16 years after treatment for intracranial germinoma. Like their testicular cancer counterparts, long-term survivors of intracranial germinomas may have a susceptibility to develop a subsequent germ cell tumor. These patients require lifelong medical follow-up and should be encouraged to

Infertility due to gametogenic failure is frequently associated with structural autosomal abnormalities. Recent meiotic studies at the pachytene stage undertaken in human infertile heterozygous carriers for such rearrangements have regularly shown a synaptic failure around the breakpoints, an association of the translocation figure with the sex chromosomes and the frequent involvement of the acrocentric chromosomes. Two main models were proposed to explain the male sterilizing effect of autosomal rearrangements: the impairment of spermatogenesis could be the result of: 1) the XY-autosome inter
