Five cases of Norwegian or keratotic scabies in HIV-positive patients are described. One of these patients was the source of an outbreak in a hospital, ultimately involving 72 persons. Three of our patients had a markedly pruritic eruption. This is unusual in crusted scabies in which pruritus is usually slight or absent. Two different chemicals were used in the treatment of Pediculus h. capitis in cases, who were found to be infested during the screening of 1 secondary and 3 elementary schools in Bostanli-Karsiyaka, Izmir. Sumithrine was found to be more effective than Lindane according to the follow up control performed a month after the treatment. While the efficacy of Sumithrine in Emlakbank elementary school, Metin Asikoglu elementary school and Emlakbank secondary school was noted as 93%, 96% and 86.8% respectively. The efficacy of Lindane was found to be 67.5% in Murside Akyuz elementary school.

Scabies in neonates and infants has a clinical pattern that may be easily misdiagnosed. The eruption is generalized, including involvement of the head, neck, face, palms, and soles, with an early tendency to pustule formation. Other lesions include papules, vesicles, and burrows, which may be obliterated by secondary lesions. A confusing clinical picture resulted in a delay in diagnosing scabies in a 23-day-old infant who was successfully treated with permethrin 5% cream.

This paper presents an overview of advances in cytological research on the biosystematics of vector simuliid complexes in the areas of identification, age grading, and the evolution of resistance in relation to the epidemiology and control of human onchocerciasis. Systematic theory is discussed and relevant examples are given to show its application in predicting and resolving current problems in species identification for New World and Old World vector complexes. The association between acute pancreatitis and organophosphate (OP) poisoning may still not be widely recognised. A case of organophosphate (diazinon) poisoning presenting as acute pancreatitis is described. The diagnosis of OP was not made during admission to hospital as the history of exposure to OP was not obtained then. Obtaining the history of OP exposure is most important. Recognising that OP poisoning can present as acute pancreatitis may be life-saving in a critically ill patient.

Ninety-nine soil samples from the rice-growing states of Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas were collected, primarily to monitor the herbicide propanil. No residual concentrations of propanil were detected in any of these samples, but TCAB, a propanil transformation product, was detected in six samples at concentrations ranging from 0.01 ppm to 0.05 ppm.
