Two assay methods for Protein C (PC) are described. Both tests are based on the activation of PC by a fraction of the venom of the Copperhead snake. Activated PC can be measured either by cleaving of a chromogenic substrate or by an APTT test. Both tests were compared with ELISA tests for PC. The authors examined relationships between chronic stress and cognitive decline and whether such relationships were mediated by psychophysiological factors. A much-anticipated phase 3 clinical trial (EXENATIDE-PD3) tested whether exenatide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist used to treat type 2 diabetes, might be neuroprotective in persons with Parkinson's disease.1 There was no difference between exenatide and matched placebo for the primary outcome or any secondary or exploratory outcomes. Certain patterns of dermatitis, such as those affecting the face, eyelids, lips, and neck, should raise the suspicion of a cosmetic-related contact allergy. Patch testing with a broad screening series, supplemented by a patient's own personal care products, should be considered when evaluating patients with suspected cosmetic dermatitis. Once the offending allergen is identified, an avoidance regimen should be established to avoid further exposure.

Aphonia is the extreme form of a functional voice disorder. 22 female patients with aphonia underwent laryngoscopic and phonic examinations, psychiatric evaluation, psychological testing and biographical history-taking. Results demonstrate a homogeneous clinical picture, but heterogeneous personality structures and conflict situations. All patients are overtaxed by their situation; the conversion reaction is used as a means to express anxiety and maintain self-assertion at the same time.
