Pharmacokinetics and 180-day safety of diazepam nasal spray in pediatric patients with epilepsy aged 2-5 years.

OBJECTIVE: Benzodiazepine immediate-use seizure medications (ISMs; also called rescue therapies) are used to treat seizure clusters/acute repetitive seizures in patients with epilepsy. In the United States, diazepam nasal spray is an approved ISM for patients ≥2 years of age. The primary objective was to assess diazepam nasal spray pharmacokinetics (PK) in patients 2-5 years of age; safety and tolerability were secondary objectives. METHODS: This Phase 1/2a, open-label, single-dose, PK study with a 180-day open-label safety period enrolled patients with epilepsy 2-5 years of age. Diazepam nas

Bibliometric Analysis of Myelomeningocele Management: National Disease Burden versus Publication Volume.

BACKGROUND: Myelomeningocele (MMC) disproportionately affects low-resource areas and regions without mandatory folic acid fortification. No specific literature exists on the distribution of research output regarding neurosurgical management of myelomeningocele worldwide in relation to regional disease burden. We aimed to examine the country of origin and patient population of published papers on MMC and topics related to neurosurgical management of MMC, to determine whether these were proportionate to disease burden. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted on neurosurgical aspec

Patient perspectives on the Tailored intervention for Anxiety and Depression Management in COPD (TANDEM): a qualitative evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is commonly associated with anxiety/depression which can affect self-management and quality of life. The TANDEM trial evaluated a cognitive behavioural approach intervention targeting COPD-related symptoms of anxiety and/or depression, comprising up to eight one-to-one sessions delivered by respiratory healthcare professionals prior to pulmonary rehabilitation (PR). The intervention showed no improvement in anxiety/depression or uptake/completion of PR. We present patient perspectives of the intervention to help understand these results.

What Advice Is Currently Given to Patients with Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) by Eyecare Practitioners, and How Effective Is It at Bringing about a Change in Lifestyle? A Systematic Review.

There is currently no treatment for early/intermediate Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) but Eye Care Professionals (ECPs) are recommended to advise patients about modifiable lifestyle factors, including dietary changes, that can slow disease progression. The aim of this review was to understand advice currently given to patients with AMD by ECPs and to evaluate evidence regarding patient compliance. A systematic review was conducted of literature published in electronic databases: CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PyscARTICLES, EMBASE, AMED. Methods followed PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO registra

Pharmacists as Care Providers for Stroke Patients: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Pharmacists have become an integral member of the multidisciplinary team providing clinical patient care in various healthcare settings. Although evidence supporting their role in the care of patients with other disease states is well-established, minimal literature has been published evaluating pharmacist interventions in stroke patients. The purpose of this systematic review is to summarize the evidence evaluating the impact of pharmacist interventions on stroke patient outcomes. METHODS: Study abstracts and full-text articles evaluating the impact of a pharmacist intervention o

Specific model for the coordination of primary and hospital care for patients with diabetes mellitus. Evaluation of two-year results (2015-2017).

INTRODUCTION: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most prevalent chronicdiseases and has a significant health and social impact. Strict control of blood glucose levels and other risk factors for vascular disease (VD) reduces complications and mortality and is related to the quality of care received. Although care should be interdisciplinary, based on the coordination of primary care (PC) and hospital care (HC), little information is available on the effectiveness of the different existing intervention models. OBJECTIVE: To assess, in a population with DM from a healthcare area, the impact on

Psychological and social challenges of patients with locally advanced and metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) on long-term treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors: a qualitative study with patients and medical oncologists.

PURPOSE: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have revolutionized the treatment of locally advanced and metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs). Patients are experiencing prolonged survival but often at the expense of their health-related quality of life. It is not only the physical side effects that impact GIST patients' daily lives but also the psychological and social challenges they have to deal with. This qualitative study aimed to explore the psychological and social life challenges of GIST patients with locally advanced and metastatic disease on ≥ 5 years TKI treatment. METHOD

Factors Associated With Hope and Quality of Life in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease.

BACKGROUND: Psychological resources such as hope have been suggested to affect quality of life (QoL) positively in patients with heart disease. However, little information regarding the relationship between these two constructs is available. PURPOSE: This work was aimed at examining the factors associated with hope and QoL in patients with coronary artery disease. METHODS: In this descriptive work, perceived QoL and hope were assessed in 500 patients with heart disease. The information was collected using the McGill QoL Questionnaire, demographic variables, and the Herth Hope Index. The Pear

Are they trained? Prevalence, motivations and barriers to CPR training among cohabitants of patients with a coronary disease.

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest occurs most often at home and often in the presence of family members of the patient who witness the event. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training of the next of kin of at-risk patients is thus potentially beneficial. The aim of our study was to document the prevalence of appropriate training among cardiac patients' cohabitants, as well as the motivations or obstacles to seeking training. 153 cohabitants of 127 patients who were hospitalized 1 year prior for confirmed coronary disease in a cardiology department (Paris, France) were interviewed using a struc

Barriers and Strategies for Inclusive Clinical Trials: Focus Group Insights on Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility.

BACKGROUND: Clinical trials are essential for advancing healthcare, yet they often underrepresent key populations, which can limit the applicability of findings to populations for whom interventions are intended and perpetuate inequities in the evidence base. In Canada, practical, context-specific resources to support inclusive trial design and conduct remain limited. OBJECTIVE: To explore barriers, facilitators, and strategies related to equitable participation in Canadian clinical trials and to gather stakeholder input to inform development of an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibil
