Twenty-eight patients underwent fiberoptic T-tube tract choledochoscopy for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of filling defects seen on postoperative T-tube cholangiograms. In 22 patients, 59 retained stones were treated by extraction. In six other patients with diagnostic problems arising from cholangiogram defects, the diagnosis was made by direct vision and biopsy specimen examination. Anomalous pancreaticobiliary junction often leads to biliary tract carcinoma but only rarely to pancreatic carcinoma. We report three cases of pancreatic carcinoma associated with anomalous pancreaticobiliary junction. All three were female with a mean age of 68 years. Ninety-five healthy volunteers and 515 patients with problems other than those of the biliary tract were examined using real-time, gray-scale, B-mode ultrasonography. Eighty-two patients (13.44%) were found to have asymptomatic gallbladder disease: 68 (11.14%) had cholelithiasis, 5 (0.81%) had acalculus cholecystitis, and 2 (0.32%) had polyps. One hundred twenty one cases of oesophagitis by gastroesophageal reflux were observed through a retrospective study of 1250 endoscopies of the upper digestive tract. The oesophagitis was staged according to Savary-Miller classification. The prevalence (93.3%) of cases were in I and II stage. Over a 14-year period we treated 2,290 cases of non-malignant biliary tract conditions, and among them were 173 cases of acute suppurative cholecystitis, an incidence of 7.6%. A correct preoperative diagnosis of acute suppurative cholecystitis was made in only about half the cases because features of recurrent pyogenic cholangitis dominated the clinical picture on many occasions.
