Morphology, histology and seasonal changes in the parathyroid gland of the lizard, Uromastix hardwickii are reported. The lizard possesses a pair of glands consisting of a single type of cells. Parathyroid gland undergoes well defined seasonal changes. Plasma LH concentrations were followed in 9 individually marked wild mallard drakes in Kiel (54 degrees N) for one year at monthly intervals. Equine neuroaxonal dystrophy/equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy is an inherited neurodegenerative disorder affecting many horse breeds. Clinical signs include a symmetric ataxia and an abnormal stance at rest, similar to cervical vertebral compressive myelopathy, equine protozoal myeloencephalitis, and equine herpesvirus 1 myeloencephalopathy. Colopexy was accomplished in eight healthy mixed-breed dogs by use of a 3-portal laparoscopic technique without major intraoperative and postoperative complications. A permanent adhesion between the colon and the abdominal wall was observed. Concentrations of acute-phase C-reactive protein (CRP) were measured in serum as a marker of systemic inflammation postoperatively, and no relevant increase in CRP concentrations was found.

This study was performed on a mixed breed street cat whose immune system had been suppressed by cortisone. Necropsy following the cat's death indicated the presence of hepatized areas of 1-1.5 cm sizes located in whole lung lobules. The samples prepared for histopathological examination confirmed verminous pneumonia. The agent causing the pathology was determined to be Aelurostrongylus abstrusus.

Animal bites continue to pose major public health challenges, and the clinical sequelae of bite injuries can extend far beyond simple wound management. Identification of people bitten by animals remains incomplete, and inconsistencies in data collection preclude meaningful conclusions about bite circumstances and predisposition of specific breeds of dogs to bite or inflict severe bites.
