How stress triggers itch: a preliminary study of the mechanism of stress-induced pruritus using fMRI.

BACKGROUND: Itch is one of the most prevalent and familiar nociceptions in humans and can result in impaired quality of life. The central pr … ith the activation of certain areas of the brain. Furthermore, we investigated whether sedating antihistamines are more effective than non-sedating antihistamines in decreasing stress-induced pruritus. Memories of stressful events followed by visual stimuli using a series of pictures depicting fearful and stressful conditions, mixed with neutralizing pictur …

Detection and visualization of intracutaneous allergic type-specific elements using long-wavelength near-infrared hyperspectral imaging.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: This study aimed to develop a method for the assessment of allergic dermatitis by using the long-wavelength near-infrared spectrum (more than 1000 nm) to detect intracutaneous allergic type-specific elements. Such a method was realized by establishing a spectral classifier for the spectra of type I and type IV allergic dermatitis reactions. METHODS: Near-infrared spectral images of histamine-induced cutaneous reaction (type I) and contact hypersensitivity erythema elicited by squaric acid dibutylester (SADBE; type IV) were obtained, and the absorption spectra of normal and…

Diffuse osteosclerosis in a patient with systemic mastocytosis.

Osteosclerosis refers to an abnormal increase in bone density resulting from excessive bone formation and/or reduced bone resorption. We pre … ndings, a diagnosis of indolent SM complicated by diffuse osteosclerosis was made. Treatment with a histamine type-2 receptor antagonist provided mild symptomatic relief. In this report, we discuss the differential causes of osteosclerosis and the pathogenesis of bone manifestations related to SM, along with subtype-specific SM treatment options.

Successful Rechallenge With Pembrolizumab After a Grade 3 Infusion Reaction With a Far Slower Infusion Rate and Premedication: A Case Report.

Patients who experience grade 3 and 4 infusion reactions during pembrolizumab treatment should discontinue treatment, per the prescribing gu … urred. Pembrolizumab rechallenge was performed, accompanied by the administration of premedication (histamine receptor inhibitors and acetaminophen) and reduction of the infusion rate. The flow rate was reduced to 25% of the normal rate, followed by a 50% reduction of the normal infusion rate; no recurrence of the infusion reaction was noted. Proper managem …

Metabolomic analysis of fatal hypothermia using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography‒mass spectrometry.

INTRODUCTION: The identification of fatal hypothermia remains a significant challenge in forensic medicine. Metabolomics, which reflects the … l the tissues, involving pathways such as the TCA cycle, fatty acid oxidation, arginine metabolism, histamine metabolism, and antioxidant-related pathways. Each tissue also displayed unique metabolic alterations. Additionally, we observed significant differences in the metabolomic profiles of kidney tissues from mice with different survival times.
