Pioneering nanobiosorbent of doped cellulose-gelatin hydrogel into carbon quantum dots and magnesium ferrite for effective removal of Cr(VI).

Hexavalent chromium is the most stable and predominant form with high toxic effects on various environments including water and wastewater. Therefore, removal of low Cr(VI) concentration levels from water is a target with major concerns. To address this issue, a novel nanobiosorbent was generated via a facile microwave synthesis approach (<20 min). The aimed material was assembled from direct impregnation of cellulose-gelatin hydrogel (C-GHg) with carbon quantum dots (CODs) and magnesium ferrite (MgFe2O4) to form C-GHg@CQDs@MgFe2O4. This was confirmed in the range 10.10 ± 0.09 nm and 28.58 ± 0

Sustained codelivery of heat shock protein peptide and rapamycin via nano-in-hydrogel induces immune tolerance in rheumatoid arthritis.

Co-delivery of autoantigens with immunomodulators via nanovaccines presents a promising strategy for inducing tolerogenic immune responses in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Conventional subcutaneous administration often results in rapid systemic dissemination, limiting efficacy in targeting lymphatic tissues. Here, we developed a tolerogenic nanovaccine-in-hydrogel delivery system comprising heat shock protein peptide-coated, rapamycin-encapsulated polymeric vesicles (HRV@gel) designed for sustained exposure to lymph nodes. This system aims to promote the differentiation of tolerant dendritic cell

A Wet-Adhesive Hydrogel Patch with Rapid-Adhesion, Anti-Swelling, and Pro-Healing Properties for Sutureless Repair of Dural Tear.

Dural tears and subsequent cerebrospinal fluid leakage are common and intractable in spinal surgery. However, the existing clinical treatments are still unsatisfactory and the effective closure and repair of dural tears remain a huge challenge. Herein, a bilayer wet-adhesive hydrogel patch (denoted as BMTP) with rapid-adhesion, anti-swelling, and pro-healing properties is developed, which comprises a tough poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) dissipative layer and a functionalized poly(acrylic acid)-based wet-adhesive layer modified with methyl acrylate (MA) and tannic acid (TA). Owing to the hydrophobic

Anti-Swelling Hydrogel Combined With Nucleus Pulposus Cell Exosomes and Senolytic Drugs Efficiently Repair Intervertebral Disc Degeneration.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a multifactorial pathology primarily driven by the senescence of nucleus pulposus cells (NPC), inflammatory microenvironment of extracellular matrix (ECM), and the resultant decline in NPCs viability. Conventional treatment strategies often fail to address these two interconnected factors simultaneously. To overcome this limitation, a bifunctional anti-swelling hydrogel system encapsulating anti-senescence drugs quercetin (Q) and dasatinib (D), as well as nucleus pulposus-derived exosomes (NP-Exo) is developed. This system is designed to clear senesce

A costal-cartilage derived stem cell-laden prominin-1-derived peptide collagen hydrogel for angiogenesis and bone regeneration.

Addressing bone injury repair remains a significant challenge in clinical settings, as effective regeneration of healthy bone tissue requires simultaneous promotion of both osteogenesis and angiogenesis. Costal cartilage, being the most abundant cartilage tissue in the human body, shares structural similarities and prolonged cartilaginous properties with long bone growth plates. Its potential as a seed cell source for bone repair, however, remains unexplored. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a key factor in bone regeneration, suffers from a short half-life and limited retention at th

Sea-Island Micelle Structured Hydrogel Scaffold: A Dual-Action Approach to Combat Cartilage Damage under RA Conditions.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common autoimmune joint disease characterized by persistent synovial inflammation and cartilage damage. The current clinical treatments primarily utilize drugs such as triptolide (TP) to address inflammation, yet they are unable to directly repair damaged cartilage. Furthermore, the persistent inflammation often undermines the effectiveness of traditional cartilage repair strategies, preventing them from achieving optimal outcomes. To tackle this challenge, this study successfully developed a drug-loaded polyurethane hydrogel-oriented porous scaffold, designed to

Self-supported DNA hydrogel facilitates microenvironment remodeling and cartilage repair to prevent osteoarthritis progression via an ambidextrous strategy.

Osteoarthritis (OA), a prevalent degenerative joint disease, currently lacks effective therapeutic options beyond symptomatic relief. Persistent inflammation and impaired cartilage repair accelerate the disease progression. The enzyme inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) contributes to OA by producing nitric oxide (NO), which intensifies inflammation and inhibits cartilage regeneration. Traditional iNOS inhibitors have demonstrated limited efficacy due to inadequate targeted release and uncoordinated control over inflammation. In this study, we developed a self-supported DNAzyme-based DNA hy
