Posterior Urethral Valves in a Healthy-Appearing Athletic Adult: A Case Report.

Posterior urethral valves (PUV) are a congenital malformation of the male urethra where the posterior opening connecting to the bladder is c … d workup, bilateral renal ultrasound, and voiding cystourethrogram, which revealed severe bilateral hydronephrosis, cortical thinning, and diverticula of the bladder, prompting a diagnosis of PUV. The patient underwent laser valve ablation surgery, although unfortunately, the surgery will prevent symptoms from progressing but is unlikely to reverse the current s …

Robotic buccal mucosal graft ureteroplasty using combination of posterior-inlay and anterior-onlay technique.

Buccal mucosal graft (BMG) ureteroplasty, particularly with the anterior-onlay technique, shows promise for treating complex ureteral strict … re observed, with a serum creatine of 82.0 μmol/L. Computed tomography urography indicated relieved hydronephrosis. In conclusion, RU-BMG using a combination of posterior-inlay and anterior-onlay technique is safe and feasible in the management of ureteral stricture. More cases and longer follow-up for this procedure are needed for better perfection of this proc …

Neglected double-J stent presenting as giant bladder and ureteral stone: A case report.

Implementing double-J (DJ) stents in urological practice helps to alleviate kidney and ureteral obstruction. The primary causes of neglectin … stone 3 years ago. Advanced imaging showed a left distal ureteral stone (0.7×0.8×1.9 cm), extensive hydronephrosis and hydroureter, and a bladder stone (4.7×3.9×3.2 cm). A left ureterorenoscopy (URS) was done to remove a stone from the end of the ureter, half of a DJ stent and a bladder calculus using cystolitholapaxy. However, the patient underwent a second sur …

GPER expression prevents estrogen-induced urinary retention in obese mice.

Long-term administration of exogenous estrogen is known to cause urinary retention and marked, often fatal, bladder distention in both male … surrounding the urogenital opening. At necropsy, these mice had prominently distended bladders and hydronephrosis. In contrast, estrogen-treated obese wild type mice only rarely displayed these signs. Our results suggest that, under conditions of obesity, estrogen induces BOO as a result of ERα-driven pathways and that GPER expression is protective against BOO.

[Horizontal pyeloureteral anastomosis in patients with UPJ obstruction has anatomical and functional advantages over vertical anastomosis].

INTRODUCTION: The standard approach to the treatment of short ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction is the Anderson-Hynes procedure. Despite its high efficiency and low complication rate, there are ongoing studies which study the modification of the procedure using open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches. AIM: To describe a modified pyeloplasty technique with an assessment of the anatomical and functional results in comparison with the Anderson-Hynes procedure. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The results of 1,768 procedures for short UPJ obstruction and hydronephrosis performed using open (804)…

Fahr's syndrome as the initial imaging characteristics of MELAS syndrome with a possible seizure activity and cardiac arrest: a case report.

This study reported a case of MELAS syndrome presenting as the initial imaging characteristics of Fahr's syndrome with "near" sudden unexpec … deo electroencephalogram. The CT urography indicated a narrow left ureteropelvic junction with left hydronephrosis, which was suggestive of ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Ultimately, a diagnosis of near-SUDEP was suspected in this patient, indicating a rare case of MELAS syndrome with near-SUDEP and LPD. The gene tests results revealed the presence of the m …

Endoscopic Management of Upper and Lower Ureteric Stones Using Pneumatic Lithotripter: A Retrospective Medical Records Review.

BACKGROUND: In this study we aimed to assess and compare the rate of sem-irigid ureterorenoscope in the treatment of upper and lower ureter … viewed regarding age, sex, stone size, stone location, success rate, complications, and presence of hydronephrosis. Success was operationally defined as the complete fragmentation of stone to very small parts that could pass or complete extraction of the stone. RESULTS: Eighty-four of the patients were stone free (91%). The success rates for patients with upper …

A similar case was identified in … fibrosis, tubular degeneration, chronic multifocal glomerulonephritis with sclerosis, and bilateral hydronephrosis. Dysplastic changes were observed in the corium of the claw and the cornea. Genetic testing identified the homozygous presence of a known MOCOS frameshift variant in the case. A Spontaneous Renal Calyceal Rupture Mimicking Physiologic Changes of Pregnancy and Other Common Pathologies.

A spontaneous renal calyceal rupture in pregnancy is extremely rare and can be challenging to identify as its presentation can mimic other more common diagnoses, which can lead to a delay in management. Here, we describe an unusual case of renal calyceal rupture in a 24-year-old G2P0010 female with pregnancy at 26.5 weeks gestation age (WGA) who was admitted to the antepartum ward due to left flank pain and uterine contractions. A renal sonogram was performed, which revealed severe left hydronephrosis and the absence of the ipsilateral ureteral jet. Urinalysis was within normal limits, and her…

Too Hot to Handle: A Case of Fever of Unknown Origin.

Fever of unknown origin (FUO) is defined as a fever higher than 38.3ºC for at least three weeks. It remains a difficult diagnostic challenge and it carries well over 200 differential diagnoses, including infectious, rheumatologic and malignant etiologies. A methodological approach with clinical deductive reasoning and value-based investigative work-up can establish the diagnosis. This case is about a 76-year-old male with a past medical history of atrial fibrillation, bladder cancer treated with chemotherapy (now in remission) and hydronephrosis with recent ureteropelvic junction stent placeme…
