We have identified tryptophan-based selective nanomolar butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitors. They are defined according to their chemical modularity, novel binding mode revealed by five solved crystal structures with human BChE, low cytotoxicity, and predicted permeability of the blood-brain barrier. Altogether, these factors indicate their potential as unique lead compounds for symptomatic therapy against Alzheimer's disease.

Cardiac arrest secondary to accidental hypothermia is rare in the United Kingdom. However, some evidence suggests that it is under-reported; furthermore, recognizing hypothermia as the cause of death is difficult in the postmortem setting. Urban and rural residents are exposed to cold winter conditions both at home and while undertaking recreational activities. A 67-year-old man with an 11-year history of composite lymphoma was admitted with fevers in the context of neutropenia and acute liver injury, 4 months after the commencement of single-agent brentuximab vedotin. BACKGROUND: An ancient yoga technique called sutra neti, which is extensively used in India to keep the sinuses healthy, led to complete velopharyngeal stenosis in a 67-year-old male patient who presented with bilateral nasal obstruction, mouth breathing, anosmia and a change in voice.
