Evaluation of an AI Medical Scribe After 236,153 Notes Generated Across Care Levels in a European Health System: Mixed Methods Retrospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Clinicians spend a substantial share of their working hours on documentation, contributing to workflow inefficiencies, reduced patient-facing time, and increased burnout. Artificial intelligence (AI) medical scribes have emerged as a promising solution to reduce this burden, yet real-world evidence remains limited and heterogeneous, and data from European health systems are especially scarce. This evaluation combines 2 complementary data sources: objective editing metadata from 236,153 notes generated by 1295 clinicians, describing operational editing behavior within the AI medical

Evaluating the availability and quality of services for lymphatic filariasis morbidity in Ghana.

BACKGROUND AND METHODOLOGY: In districts where lymphatic filariasis (LF) is endemic, the goal is to provide 100% geographical coverage of the essential package of care. Additionally, countries seeking elimination status must document the availability of services for lymphoedema and hydrocele in all endemic areas. To do this, the WHO recommends conducting assessments of the readiness and quality of services provided to identify service delivery and quality gaps. This study used the recommended WHO Direct Inspection Protocol (DIP), which consists of 14 core indicators related to LF case manageme

Validation of a novel virtual reality simulation system with the focus on training for surgical dissection during laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy.

BACKGROUND: Mastery of technical skills is one of the fundamental goals of surgical training for novices. Meanwhile, performing laparoscopic procedures requires exceptional surgical skills compared to open surgery. However, it is often difficult for trainees to learn through observation and practice only. Virtual reality (VR)-based surgical simulation is expanding and rapidly advancing. A major obstacle for laparoscopic trainees is the difficulty of well-performed dissection. Therefore, we developed a new VR simulation system, Lap-PASS LP-100, which focuses on training to create proper tension

Protocol of the randomised placebo controlled pilot trial of the management of acute sciatica (SCIATICA): a feasibility study.

INTRODUCTION: Acute sciatica (symptom duration less than 4 weeks), a major cause of pain and disability, is a common presentation to medical practices and hospital emergency departments. Selective CT fluoroscopy transforaminal epidural steroid injection is often used with the hope of reducing pain and improving function. Recently, there has been interest in using systemic corticosteroids in acute sciatica. However, there is limited evidence to inform management of selective CT fluoroscopy transforaminal epidural steroid in subacute and chronic sciatica and there is no evidence in acute sciatic

GOComm: A team-based communication intervention to improve clinicians' skills and distress tolerance in family meetings.

BACKGROUND: Medical training often omits systematic approaches to prognostication and goals of care (GOC) communication, leading to end-of-life (EOL) hospital care misaligned with patients' values, lower clinician self-efficacy, and greater clinician distress. OBJECTIVE: This communication training intervention aimed to improve clinician knowledge and self-efficacy and to reduce distress in conducting GOC discussions. METHODS: We developed and implemented GOComm, a 4-h serious illness communication training program across eight campuses of a large health system. Utilizing a train-the-trainer

Immune checkpoint inhibitors were not associated with poor asthma control in patients with pre-existing asthma.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are associated with various pulmonary toxicities. Their impact on pre-existing asthma remains poorly characterized. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of adult cancer patients with pre-existing asthma who received at least one ICI dose. Asthma control before and after ICI therapy was assessed based on changes in asthma medications, exacerbations requiring systemic corticosteroids, and asthma-related hospitalizations. Poor asthma control was defined as worsening in any of these parameters following ICI initiation. RESULTS: Among

Evaluation of Hypertension in Pediatric Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Historical Study.

INTRODUCTION: Childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE) primarily affects children and adolescents and is a potentially life-threatening condition. In contrast to adult-onset SLE, children with cSLE tend to have a more severe and aggressive course of disease. One of the most prevalent and concerning comorbidities in SLE patients is hypertension (HTN). This study evaluates diverse aspects of HTN in pediatric patients afflicted with cSLE at a tertiary hospital. METHOD: This historical study includes medical records of all patients with cSLE referred to Children's Medical Hospital for

Non-Battle Injury in Military Operations Novel Treatment for Soft Tissue Injury and Infection with Logistics Implications.

BACKGROUND: Non-battle injuries (NBIs) represent a substantial proportion of morbidity during military deployments, often exceeding combat-related injuries in frequency. NBIs, including superficial wounds, burns, blisters, and soft tissue infections, remain a significant source of lost duty time and operational disruption in deployed military populations. In austere environments with limited medical support, even minor injuries often progress to cellulitis or abscess, which require substantial logistical resources including irrigation fluids, medical dressings, and antibiotics, impairing opera

Investigating the "off-hour effect" on outcomes of neonates undergoing emergency gastrointestinal surgery.

BACKGROUND: Evidence regarding the off-hour effect on outcomes in neonates with gastrointestinal disease who received urgent surgical intervention is unknown. Because of the workforce shortage, insufficient experience of surgeons, and delayed radiography examination during off-hours, we hypothesized that emergency surgeries performed during off-hours were associated with worse outcomes. This study aims to analyze the association between the "off-hour effect" and adverse events of neonates undergoing emergency gastrointestinal surgery. METHODS: We extracted patient data from the electronic med
