Does exercise intensity matter for fatigue during (neo-)adjuvant cancer treatment? The Phys-Can randomized clinical trial.

Exercise during cancer treatment improves cancer-related fatigue (CRF), but the importance of exercise intensity for CRF is unclear. We compared the effects of high- vs low-to-moderate-intensity exercise with or without additional behavior change support (BCS) on CRF in patients undergoing (neo-)adjuvant cancer treatment. This was a multicenter, 2x2 factorial design randomized controlled trial (Clinical Trials NCT02473003) in Sweden. Participants recently diagnosed with breast (n = 457), prostate (n = 97) or colorectal (n = 23) cancer undergoing (neo-)adjuvant treatment were randomized to high

A prospective investigation over two decades on signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders and associated variables. A final summary.

The aim of this summary of a longitudinal investigation on temporomandibular disorders (TMD) was to present the prevalence figures of signs and symptoms of TMD and certain other examined variables, and the correlations between these variables, over a 20-year period. Originally, 402 randomly selected 7-, 11-, and 15-year-olds were examined clinically and by means of a questionnaire. The same examination procedure was repeated three times: after 4-5 years and after 10 and 20 years, respectively. Signs and symptoms of TMD were mainly mild, but common already in childhood. They increased up to you

Sex-specific predictors of lower-limb strength: an interpretable machine learning analysis of anthropometric and body composition measures.

Muscular strength is a key indicator of physical function. However, its direct laboratory assessment often requires specialized, high-cost equipment and can impose significant physical fatigue or safety risks for certain populations, limiting its routine implementation in large-scale screenings. Using anthropometric and body-composition data from 200 healthy Korean adults aged 19-68 years, this study initially evaluated predictive models for leg extensor strength (LES), leg flexor strength (LFS), and handgrip strength (HGS). The interpretable machine-learning framework was subsequently focused

From Metabolism to Medals: Contemporary Perspectives and Revisiting Carbohydrate Guidelines for Fueling Endurance Athletes during Exercise.

The effects of carbohydrate (CHO) intake on substrate metabolism, exercise capacity, and exercise performance have been studied for >100 y. From a metabolic perspective, the ergogenic effect of CHO intake is likely mediated by liver (and potentially muscle) glycogen sparing, maintenance of plasma glucose concentrations, and whole-body CHO oxidation rates, such that the required exercise intensity can be sustained for a longer duration thereby delaying fatigue. Accordingly, the 2016 sport nutrition guidelines from the American College of Sports Medicine recommend CHO intakes ≤90 g/h (from multi

Multi-omics analysis of long COVID (post-COVID-19 condition) reveals persistent mitochondrial dysfunction, suppressed oxidative phosphorylation, and immune dysregulation.

INTRODUCTION: Post-COVID Syndrome (PCS), or long-COVID, is a major public health burden, but its underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Because acute SARS-CoV-2 infection induces marked suppression of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), we investigated whether persistent immunometabolic remodeling is a recurring transcriptional, metabolic, and proteomic feature of PCS. METHODS: We performed an integrated multi-omics analysis of transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic datasets across multiple tissues from Syrian hamster models and human cohorts spanning acute infectio

Physiological evaluation of the Calgary adapted aRm ergometer (CARE) concussion exertion test in adolescent athletes: A repeated-measures observational study.

Exertion testing helps inform exercise prescription during concussion recovery. The Calgary Adapted aRm Ergometer (CARE) test, developed as the first upper-body specific exertion test, aims to improve accessibility and inclusivity in concussion care. While initial development was conducted in adults, its applicability in adolescents remains unknown. This study compared physiological responses between the CARE test and the Calgary Concussion Cycle Test (CCCT) in non-disabled adolescent male and female athletes. Fifteen females and fifteen males (aged 14-17) performed CARE and CCCT to volitional

Protocol of the digital long COVID study: A single-center, registry-based, feasibility and clinical evaluation study to investigate a 12-week digital intervention program for people affected by post-COVID-19 condition.

Up to 400 million individuals globally are estimated to experience persistent symptoms, including fatigue, muscle pain, and brain fog, following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 infection. These persistent symptoms are referred to as Post-COVID-19 condition if they last for more than 12 weeks after infection and persist for at least 8 weeks and often causing significant distress and burden. The underlying pathological mechanisms have not yet been fully elucidated. Due to the heterogeneity of the disease a multifactorial origin is highly likely. Overall, evidence on optimal

Post-orgasmic illness syndrome: possible role of mast cells, immunoglobulins, and multi-organ system inflammatory response.

INTRODUCTION: Post-orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) is an incapacitating reaction that erupts following ejaculation/orgasm. The reaction occurs in different clusters, with general fatigue or flu-like symptoms, headache, brain fog, itchy rash, irritated eyes, congested nose, sore throat, and/or muscle tension. Symptoms typically last several hours to days. Although sensitized immune and autoimmune responses are implicated, it is not yet known how the symptoms are initiated or progress into fully-blown POIS. The objective of this narrative review is to assess the potential role played by mast ce
